Maybe not the best day to have a lesson, the wind and rain was driving into the bay.

Got some good work done despite the weather, making some minor changes to facilitate a more controlled and powerful swing.

* right hand was a bit weak, raising the right forearm higher than the left and the elbow was too high and straight forcing the clubshaft up.
* the head rotates to the right in the backswing, causing the body to over rotate and the left arm to go too deep behind me going back, keeping the club on the downswing under plane.
* stance was too wide and my right foot was dragging on the throughswing and not contributing to the swings power, in fact it was holding back the hip turn restricting my turn through the shot.
* right foot was too square at address, restricting the hip turn in backswing too much.

Thats the things i'm to work on in the next 4 or so weeks before going back for another lesson. I did hit the ball so much better than i had for a while. Luckily most of the changes are at address and only the head rotation is a change during the swing so should be comfortable with the changes soon.......

We talked about past lessons, what i wanted to work on, what i felt was happening in the swing, what my goals are. And what really impressed me was that he doesn't change things for the sake of changing something, he knows what is restricting the swing and what causes problems and makes sure you're comfortable and understand the change and why.

Even though i coach golf, it is very difficult to coach yourself. Very impressed with todays lesson....... :)

Interesting to read the feedback of your lesson, I expect for most of us 4 things from one lesson may be a bit too much to take in at once.

Do we get to see a video of your swing then ? ;)

If I was thinking about all that s41t I wouldn't even be able to start my backswing.

Whats wrong with grip it and rip it?

And I thought I had too many swing thoughts going on. I guess if you've got the talent to play good golf the changes seem relatively minor compared with the bigger fixes some of us need. Be good to see a video though

Will put up a video when i take one, i had my camera with me but the rain was hitting the back wall of the bay. His camera was only used for a few swings.

I thought the changes were very subtle, none of them were a major change, just a little adjustment here and there. The change in setup and keeping the head from rotating had the desired effect on the swing path and body rotation.

who teaches the teachers ??

I never really thought about it but most of the coaches i know do get lessons from other coaches. It is difficult to teach yourself. You know what the ball is doing and what causes it, and you can video your own swing then try to sort things out. But it is easier and better to see things in person and have constant feedback to work out the issues.

I was going to say that that is A LOT to be thinking about, but given your a coach then hopefully you can take it all in !!

How long will you have to be conscious of these small changes before it happens naturally and you don't have to think about it?

Weather permitting, shouldn't be long.

Stronger right hand and relax right elbow
Narrower stance with right foot turned out a bit more
Keep head from rotating on back swing

Think the grip will take the longest, hopefully within a few practice sessions, so within 2 weeks if all goes well.
