Golf in the Carribean

I am going to the Dominican Republic next month and there are quite a few really nice courses close to the hotel. I am thinking of playing a few rounds out there but it is not cheap. Has anyone ever played in the Carribean and if so what was the experience like?

I went last year and never played but I wish I did.

I understand they have a world top 10 course on the island.
