with the growing choice of trendy golf apparel being released for the 2008 season what are your thoughts on this matter.?
when are you good enough to look cool on the course? can you shoot 110 wearing lemon and black stromberg trousers, hillfiger polo and the latest willam hunt cardigan or will you always look like "all the gear no idea."
with golf being such a mental game can clothes really maketh the man?
i recently convinced myself i was playing well enough to warrant a new wardrobe that didnt have me dressing like my dad.
£650 later and im playing like a bag of shite!!
the clothes havent arrived yet, do i need to send them back????

Heres a handy little hint for you.
Normal slacks or cargo type trousers, whatever colour of tshirt you want, lets use lemon for an example then wear a jumper on top. After a few holes if everything is going well, take the jumper off and let yourself and everyone within 200 yards bask in your nuclear glow. If the day is going badly, the jumper remains on!
I prefer normal golfing colours at the moment but will be looking at some reds/oranges/greens when the better weather returns.

I like to look smart (look good, feel good) and although I don't always buy "brand names" I like to dress well, normally in something colour co-ordinated.

I do own a couple of pairs of Strombergs but these normally only come out in the summer as I find the cut of the leg coolects a lot of water and by the 6th I'm carrying and extra 4lbs in excess moisture.

I wouldn't be seen dead in pink, lime green or yellow but do like a good well fitting polo, nice trousers and clean shoes. Guess that has me in the fancy camp

Not into the Poulteresque type clothing-Prefer simple Polos and decent trousers-Dont have the slim toned body to wear the figure hugging gear currently vogue with cetain golfers.

Fair questions, for me its all about enjoyment, what you get out of the game and what you manage to contribute. If you want to wear the clothes then go for it!BUT, if you want to really improve your game(Not that we all do,horses for courses)then I would spend the cash on lessons. The clothes won't improve your game but they may help you enjoy the day, which is what it's all about?
After all, how good do you want to be??????

I tend to stick to basic black trousers and sweater plus any colour of polo shirt I can find. Also have a couple of pairs of light chinos that I wear but only when the weather improves. At my size I really do not look good in bright colours or figure hugging clothing, tend to look like a badly upholstered 1970s sofa if I wear anything like that.

I think if you do wear clothes like you mentioned then yeah, ppl will probably think ATG-NI.

In my opinion people tend to judge to eaily by appearance.

Only the other day i turned up at my local short course and booked in, the lady said yor behind a 3 ball waiting to go up. The course was busy so we started heading up. As we did, 3 chaps in jeans and trainers holding donnay's finest putters and lips sporting lamberts shouted, aye your behind us lads. So after telling them the course was busy and that if they wanted to get out before us, they better stop tittin about on the puttin green i walked to the first tee.

Shortly afterward up comes john daly and his sons, 'you can go before us if ya want'

As i was teeing off, he said to the bro in law, When we seen him in short sleeves and a tank top (plian black before you all start) we knew he must be good.

Haha, me good? I did nail a 260 drive but that was luck.

Anyway my point is, you might draw unwanted attention to your self but if you dont mind that and it makes you feel good, go for it. If not stick to the white blue or blacks

I just wear what's best for the job, I usually wear my tan cords and a Maine polo with tank top with Halley Hansen underneath, the past few weeks I have been wearing my waterproof trousers and cords tucked into my socks so not to get caked in mud so they are ok if I fancy a pint afterwards.

I just wear what is cleanish lol, I am not that bothered as long as I get on the course and play golf.

I have a tendancy to find that the more swank you wear, the better player you seem to be in the eyes of others - which we know can be a bit of a falacy.

Playing off 28 and given that I don't want to look a t*t, I go for the understated M&S Chino, Polo Neck (or moody Callaway "3 for £10 from street market in Malaysia" polo and a Ping jumper. Coupled with thermals and wets over the last 4 weeks, I find that an acceptable combo.

Its more about being comfortable in what you play in. And given the choice between blowing £100 on clothes and £100 on lessons, then lessons win every time (at the moment at least)

This year, as last, I shall be mostly wearing Tesco.
It is noticeable that Hillfiger, Stromberg et al are not really designed for the fuller figure (not that I would pay such ludicrous sums for them but if that's what floats your boat).

For the larger boned individual i would also recommend BHS for some very good, very cheap golf trousers.

For those like me whose a*se is nearer the ground than average, it's GAP for the trousers - and you can get a lorryload of polos for twenty quid from Matalan in shades from tastefully subdued to the truly Poulteresque
