Golf Club loses half its members due to HS2

Doubtless the roads on the new housing developments will be called St Andrews Drive, Wentworth Ave, Troon Close, etc, to remind us that before HS2 there were golf courses on these sites. Meanwhile the Local Councils or landowners will rake in a fortune by selling off the land for development! So much for the Green Belt!

Green belt is not worth the paper it is written on and hasn't for years. I do think there are to many golf courses though in certain parts of the UK.

That line actually stops at various different towns and cities to allow the whole country to use it and have the benefit.

If they upgraded our current rail network then fine but they aren't - this is a direct link between two cities to cut travel time down - what about all the people in the east of the country or the west that see zero benefit from this but yet their taxes are paying for it.

High speed travel is worth the investment but only if it benefits everyone and isn't just about two cities

But the benefits do go far beyond speed of travel two cities. HS2 will release capacity in the network making them significantly less crowded and will enable more freight to use those lines.

We quite clearly need to invest in rail infrastructure in this country whether this is the best way of doing it is up for debate but lets not pretend that upgrading the current network be cheap or pain free.

Houses within half a mile of the planned route are already thought to be devaluing...
As soon as they actually put a fork in the earth, any house within 400 metres will be worthless - nobody will want to buy them for anything like what people have paid for them.
When it's built do you honestly think any house builder is going to risk millions building lumps of estates that close to 250mph trains thundering past every 5 minutes? If he could sell the houses they'd be worthless before a year was out.....

Industrial units within 400 metres of the HS2 railway line, then houses for all the immigrants that the last Labour Government allowed in! BTW, the Green Belt in my area (West Herts and North Middx) is pretty much all golf courses anyway.

Unfortunately Hillingdon Council, it would seem, are not necessarily agreeing with this thought.... Guessing the required 'affordable' stroke social housing requirements of large developments these days will be the homes nearer to the railway....

We do need to invest in the rail network - not just build this one line - put the money into all the rail network around the country

You'll lose that 12 minutes waiting for the next shuttle to go back to Brum because it doesn't stop in the centre or even the NEC, a business centre and trade venue of mass proportions, you couldn't make it up.

That would be great. I'd love to be able to get up to 60mph on the motorway but accidents, congestion, and roadworks would have to banned in order for it to happen.

The scheme is already £10million+ over budget and they haven't even done anything yet.....

It started at 20 billion, is currently around 50 billion and, when it's finished, will probably have cost 100........

Little bit of research and the governments preferred option is Birmingham Curzon Street which is still a shuttle away from New Street, so you can't disembark the HS2 and get on another train immediately, you need to tram or bus to the main New Street station 2-5 minutes away.

But that is also the case in London. HS1 & when it comes HS2 operate from a designated station, St Pancras International.Yet travellers into other London stations still manage to get there.

The extension to the existing Metro will link the four stations, Snow Hill, Moor Street, New Street & HS2. All somewhat easier than getting from Paddington to St Pancras.

So the time gained from the HS2 is then lost getting connections into New Street and then onwards ?

Still plenty of time yet for it to be shelved then the money being spent on something all tax payers can feel the benefit and not just businessmen in London and Brum
