golf breaks

me and my mate are looking at a weekend break
play sat afternoon /then sunday morning
any suggestions we live nr nottingham and want it to no more than about 3 hours away, been looking at celtic manor but have read some bad/good reviews?

Try the Lancashire coast - loads of great courses. The only problem I can see is getting on at weekends as most private clubs will be members/guests only

As suggested, Formby Hall is a great venue. I was up there in the Spring and also played Birkdale which is less than 30 mins away.

Barnham Broom near Norwich is also a great facility. 2 courses and great practice facilities - good value too.

Hawkstone park near Shrewsbury have 2 excellent 18 hole courses and the place as a whole is really good. They did packages for golfing breaks last year, don't know if they do this year but I'd be surprised if they didn't.

If its this weekend then keep away. The V festival is on and traffic will be a nightmare all around Telford.

Just got back from hill valley in Shropshire. Lovely course and cheap as chips!

Oulton Hall (Leeds) just off M1/M62 and Forest Pines (Scunthorpe) both do good deals and have 27 hole layouts so you play different combinations each day. Most places offer great deals on a "Sunday Driver" package which are Sunday/Monday deals so I'd be tempted to go for that if Monday isn't a dealbreaker. If you are looking for a night out too then Oulton Hall is only 10 mins in a cab from centre of Leeds.
