Golf Apps (again, sorry!)

Strangely, I saw a notice at my club the other day which said that iPhone's were permitted for use in Competitions. Just don't tell IMurg, he might go on a killing spree ;)

I love it when a golf club changes the rules of golf. Mine does this sort of thing. I sometimes wonder why we bother having a rule book at all.

I wondered exactly the same thing when I read it.

No, you can't over rule a rule, it's in the rules.

However, a lot of clubs, comittees, managers etc think that they are special, and that certain rules can be over looked.

For instance, we have an Auction event. Called The Auction. The rules forbid 'auction style' events. But it's historical, we've always done it, so it's ok.

If you win the Auction, you win about £2500. Way more than the £500 you are allowed to win as an amateur. But, we've always done it, so it's ok.

If you willfully collude with someone breaking one of the rules of golf, you are disqualified. But all the entrants in the Auction are willfully breaking the rules themselves, and also colluding with others breaking the rules. Yet no one ever gets disqualified from it. We've always done it, so it is ok.

I don't enter it. It's wrong.

I have also tried insisting that if I end up playing against a former winner, then they have to play off scratch. For some reason, they are unhappy with this, and yet are happy to keep the money.
