GoKart DIY repair

My mate had a problem with his GoKart electric trolley, the black control cable from the motor to the controls in the handle had broken.

He said GoKart wanted £100 to fix it, I got a metre of 4-core alarm cable and re-wired it for him, total cost £2 (and a couple of hours of my time of course.)

Perhaps think twice before going to a repair shop for electric trolley problems as most probably you will know someone that has some nous with electrics that could do it instead.

I'm hoping your point isn't that GoKart were trying to rip him off?

If so, that's kind of like saying something wrong with my car, so my mechanic mate fixed it. Only charged me for parts, so £40. But if he'd been fixing it for a "customer", labour charges would have been £70 - £100, plus the parts, plus VAT.

GoKart aren't going to fix it for free, are they?

Your mate could have sent it back and got the upgrade to the handle, plus a service and clean up for cheaper than the repair! Surprised they didn't mention that to him.

Hi Bratty no that wasnt the point I was making. I'm sure GoKart pricing is inline with any other manufacturer and is probably cost of the assembled part plus a typical hourly rate of labour.

Maybe I should say company X, because it really doesnt matter what the company is. The point is that some things are dead easy and cheap to fix and most people do not realise. With the internet it can be very easy to get the information and parts to DIY certain things and save yourself a few quid.
