I was watching a Ben hogan video someone posted on here yesterday, and one thing i noticed was how far past horizontel he was swinging. And reading Tiger woods book "How do i play golf" he says he never gets past horizontel.Myself personally i hardly ever get to that stage.Do you overswing, underswing,or try and get horizontel. Not that im going to change, but im going stir crazy at home due to not being able to play,so id thought id start some posts.

I go past horizontal(sp) with my driver, but not any other club in the bag. I guess I try for more control with most of my sticks (waste of time, obv), but go for every thing with my driver. I find if I try to shorten my driver swing I lose all rhythm.

Past horizontal

3/4 swing

Some of us old geezers have trouble getting past the 1st horizontal let alone the one behind the head :o :o

:p :p

I don't get anywhere near parallel. Old shoulder, collarbone & elbow injuries see to that.

WD40 helps me complete my backswing. :o

I swing well past horizontal without even realizing I'm doing it (except when I see the clubhead out of my left eye...), apparently my three-quarter swing is "normal" to everyone else. I've no idea when or why I started doing this though.

I try and keep my laft arm as straight as i can and if i have a decent grip and my shoulder turns down to the ball then its pretty hard to overswing i think unless the left elbow collapses in the backswing....
Im open to criticism though :o

Different clubs and different shafts in Ben Hogan's day. If you were to swing them as you do the modern clubs of today you wouldn't get the results.

I overswing with every club, even when i go for lessons and they tell me only to do what feels like a half swing to me i'm still slightly overswinging. It feels like the club is only getting to hip height but when it's actually getting well past vertical.

I often think I've made a 3/4 swing especially if I'm working at the range and then look at it on video and it is horizontal (and beyond with a driver). With my dodgy swing timing is everything and so if I try and worry too much about it then I lose synchronicity and it goes even more to pot. One less thing to worry about if I let it go where it wants to
