Going minimalist

Minimalist to my thinking is 5 or 6 clubs at most.
9 clubs isn't minimalist. When it's carry only, I go down to 6 clubs max and when trolleys allowed back up to 14.
I agree that 9 is a bit much for true minimalist. I am looking at ways to bring it back to 8 but do enjoy my current setup. And what is pretty minimalist is owning only 10 clubs in total!

I just feel like you're hampering yourself. The aim is to make the best score you can, and you're allowed up to 14 tools to do that, so you might as well use them all. 😄 Going out with 8 clubs is like playing snooker one-handed or running a marathon in Crocs. It doesn't make sense to me.

I must admit, I find it odd, unless it was for fun, but that wouldn't be fun for me.

I play my game to my average shot distance for all clubs and the only times I play the same club differently is from 80 yards in and for that I use one of two wedges.

Yes, I can back foot an iron for an under the tree shot, draw and fade etc., but I've spent too much time getting consistent distances to play half swings etc.
