Going Alone.

I'll often play a solo round v early on a saturday. I can get round in about 2 hours

Only just joined a Club Andy and have no 'golfing mates' there yet, so play alone and love it.

Its the only time a talk to myself out loud and then find myself lookin around to see if anyone's spotted me :D

Played Haigh Hall a few times and Gathurst with a mate who's a member there. Playing Haigh Hall alone tomorrow afternoon(hence the thread), mainly been playing at Porters Wood 9 hole (next to vale royal) as it's not so daunting for a beginner like myself especially playing alone. Appreciate the offer and hopefully take you up on it !

Know Appley Bridge well, worked at the Waters Edge for a couple of years :D

I was a member at Gathurst for a few years. It's a lovely course with plenty of internal OOB. My best advice would be to take the plunge and join a club. Gathurst, Arley, Houghwood, Dean Wood are all good courses. Chorley is also a cracker (only 10 minutes away from Standish, just past Duxbury). Put your name down for some Comps to get your card sorted and throw yourself into it.. You won't regret it..

I would also recommend keeping an eye on the "arrange a game" section on here. The North West contingent are probably the most active group on the forum, and as long as you don't mind scousers, you'll get to play some great courses and also a few weekends away each year..;)

Anytime you fancy a knock, don't hesitate to give me a PM. I play midweek mainly (shiftworker)..

Not a fan of playing alone to be honest ,big part of golf for me is the chit chat & banter going around ,

personally i think if your enjoying golf you will enjoy it more sharing it with another golfer , dont get me wrong you will find a few you will never want to play with again but the nice & decent ones you find will make your golfing experience alot more enjoyable

Welcome to the forum by the way ..

I play golf on my own a lot - I get a day off during the week, some of the time I don't know which day much in advance so it can be difficult arranging people to play with.

And the beauty of playing on your own is I can just wander round (350 yards to first tee) and straight onto the course when there's a gap if the weather is OK - not fixed to a tee time or anyone else being ready to go with me.

I mix it up a bit - if I'm only playing a few holes I'll play two balls and probably practice chipping and putting if it's quiet - if playing a full round I'll usually keep score in my head and putt everything out.
