why is it when someone shouts these words to you your game goes down the pan for that hole!!

Was out today and on the 2nd, par 5.. 3 ball in front and they waved us through. They move to the left jus in the trees and i set up and bang.. FORE!!! My ball drops right near them.. rest of the hole wasnt so bad but my playing partner hits his drive way right.. Goodbye ball!!

Is it me or when someone lets you play through you instantly feel like you have to rush??!!

That is exactly what it is. You rush, swing too quickly and hit a rubbish one. I am just the same. I also find its not much better on the next holes as you then feel as though you need to move away and out of the way so they have a clear path behind. I guess its about just sticking to what you normally do on a shot and going through any pre-shot routine and trusting yourself. If they've let you through an extra 10 seconds won't kill them

I normally do that too.
But playing at Pings "Karsten Lakes" course last year with James (JustOne) we teed off from the 2nd (longish par 4) and there were 4 guys short of the green in the rough searching for a ball/balls.
They called us through.
I was about 190 out and flushed a four iron, went like an exocet and finished up about 3 feet from the pin.
They all looked at me as I walked by, I touched the peak of my cap like a 'pro and nodded to them.
Finished the hole and then shanked one off the next tee
:D :D :D :D :D :D

pmsl.. yeah there is also that scenario..

i remember again on the 2nd being let through and smashed one of my best ever drives leaving me around 130yards, walked up and was praised by the people letting us through saying "you smashed that one" to then go and fluff the next shot about 20 yards!

I had a similar situation not so long ago.
After playing our 18th the guy in the bar says "I saw you wedge from 60 yards to about a foot and tap your birdie putt in. That's superb young man!"

I had to tell him my uphill drive landed right behind a tree 20yards right and I bumped it out to that 60yard spot.

Despite the strong finish and a good par overall he did think a lot less of me afterwards... :)

I was playing this morning on my own, was on the par 5 9th when a lad on his own up ahead was just finishing the hole. I was about to take my 2nd shot about 210-220 yards to the green. The lad finishes before I take my shot and as the 10th tee is very close I see him park his backside on a seat next to the tee. I take my 2nd and leave it about 30-40 yards short of the green, middle of the fairway. As I walk to my ball the lads still sitting there obviously waiting to allow me to play through. I take my shot, walk to the green and 2 putt for my par.

The lad still waiting at the seat obviously about to ask if I wanted to join him or play through. I walk straight past and off the course. I only planned to play 9 anyway. Should have seen his face!!

Oh well.....sorry mate

:-)
