Go-Kart batteries

But when I say very rarely used for 36 holes I mean like hardly ever, the main reason I paid the extra £30 for the 36 hole battery is because I thought it would then last me a couple years longer than an 18 hole battery therefore saving me some money in the long run. If what people are saying above is true then because it's not going to do 36 holes it'll probably die on me sooner rather than later

You could phone Gokart and discuss it with them.
When I changed from a 36 to an 18 they gave me a free umbrella holder. :)

It will do 36 holes and I will last a good while as long as you look after it. When I got my trolley nearly 4 years ago I was told to just keep the battery on charge, it is still going strong and for an 18 hole battery can do 36 holes still.

glad you got it sorted, about to cycle mine again, it ran for like 8hrs last night and was still going when I decided to charge it. Been on charge for 18hrs now so gonna do another 5hr run then just leave on charge until next round.

It must be the extra weight as it only seems to have a bit of oomph for about 12 holes then starts slowing

Let us know over the next few weeks if you get more or less holes out of it after over-discharging.

It would be good to get first hand experience to confirm or dispel the myth.

Are you supposed to keep the battery on charge all the time then? Electricity bills must cost a fortune. I thought you were meant to unplug when the green light comes on.

If you have got a 3 stage charger (most modern ones should be 3 stage) then when the battery is fully charged the charger switches off but if it detects that the voltage in the battery has slightly dropped, then the trickle charge comes on again until battery is at optimal level again.

These usually have 3 colour LED(s). Red indicating full charging - up to 4 amps. Orange indicating reducing charge to get to fully charged battery and green when battery is fully charged and the charger has switched to stand-by or top up mode.

Very low consumption on this top up trickle charge.

If you have a very old 2 stage charger (unlikely as it would probably have given up the ghost by now), then turn it off when the battery is charged or you might cook the battery. You would have known by now if you had done that.

This is my whole point, since I purchased my gokart about 5 years ago, I have only had the battery off charge when travelling to and from the club and when playing! The first battery lasted ages, but this one is terrible!

I will keep you updated. Might look at using my standbag aswell on the trolley next round as the VR Tourbag is fairly weighty and that may reduce the battery somewhat.
