Played this much discussed future Ryder Cup course yesterday, and boy was it a slog. No drainage issues but you could feel that the course had absorbed heavy rainfall which we have all enjoyed up here over the past week. Add into it the strongest inland wind I have ever experienced it made for a long, tough yet enjoyable round. Highlight was par'ing three out of four Par 5's - and having a (long)birdie putt on all three.

Downside was losing 3 balls on 16th & 17th - dont ask !!

Not convinced on the last being fit for a Ryder Cup closing hole. I know there is some course re-design & upgrade (by the Golder Bear's design company) but I would love to see the 16th become the last somehow, The 18th as it stands is a straight forward yet uphill par 5 - pretty non-descript, plus it will play into a setting sun later in the day (if there is sun) - thoughts anyone ?

The Dormy clubhouse hase been re-furbed over winter and is much improved. I think however the upgrade is getting funded by the prices (£15 for a burger or fish supper - ouch) Didnt stop me indulging and washing it down with a Guinness. When in Rome....

My order of preference for Gleneagles courses - 1st The Kings, 2nd The Queens, 3rd The PGA

Now off to buy a lottery ticket so I can pick up a membership for next season - haha !!

Totally agree about the PGA, its disappointing, a slog, disjointed, uninspiring and totally out of character when compared to two vastly superior courses such as the Kings and Queens.

Just like Celtic Manor the Ryder Cup has been bought and brought to an inferior course when there are loads better in both countries.

I would not play the PGA again unless it was a freebie!

The PGA is a turd of a golf course. It has everything I hate about resort courses in big tees, big bunkers, big greens and no imagination.

I wouldn't cross the road for it but the Kings is another matter completely.

The PGA is a turd of a golf course.

Never seen that rating used in any of the Top 100 Course guides.

Maybe you've found that little thing that's missing in all these Course Lists.

We could call it The Dodger Factor, easily understood by everyone.

The turd factor could definately be applied to my fluffed 6-iron into the water at the 16th and my two (yes two) tee shots at the 17th.

Didnt like those 3 balls anyway....
