GIR - How do you compare?

I play 150-180 rounds a year and keep my stats. This is what I have done the past few years with a Category 2.

2004 51%
2005 55%
2006 51%
2007 57%
2008 56%
2009 61%
2010 59%
2011 63%

This year in 9 competition rounds off the whites I've averaged 5 GIR

From How-did-I-do Cat 1 averaged 50.4% so 9.
I'd expect scratch to be about 11 or 12
Tour Pro 14 to 15

We've had a few Tour pros play it. None of them hit 18 out of 18 and I think that is a pretty tall order for anyone on any (well most) courses anyway which is why they all have such good short games

According SS2 I'm hitting 22% which is bang on the money for my current handicap and if you take May and June together it rises to 26%

I don't really know. Probably 6..? Sometimes I have a mare and miss nearly all. Occasionally, I hit up to 10.

I average 8
I reckon Cat1 10-11
Scratch 12-13
Tour Pro 14-15
Top Pro 16-17

I had 12 on one of my initial 3 hc cards, but 40 putts :o

The reason I have tour pros and top tour pros so high, is that off our tees, they'd never have any more than a 9 iron left to the green (and most would probably be a pitch), all par 5's easily reachable, and the longest par 3 would only be a 7 iron at most.

My GIR at my home club? Ahem... 16% :o :o

There again, rather than hit the green and 3 putt, I prefer to chip on and 1 putt (sometimes 2).

Just feels better ;) ;)

Min has been improving recently. I'm currently averaging about 24.6% on my home course (about 5?) which is clearly not very good.

I find my course difficult to hit lots of GIR though, as we have a lot of long par 4s where I'm hitting longer irons, hybrids or even fairway woods into greens. My average GIR for my last 5 rounds on other courses is much better. Closer to 40%. It's amazing the difference course length makes to this stat.

Between 6 & 10 and the ones I miss are generally fairly close. TBH, I don't worry too much about it, there are a lot of reasons you could miss a green and it isn't necessarily because you hit a bad shot. What's important is that you have the game to get down in two from wherever you end up.

Stats never tell the whole story
