Getting into competitions

My point is how long have you been a member at your current club, how long have you had your h/cap and why ask about playing comps. at a new club when you don't play them at your present one.At my club a new member that brings his h/cap from a previous club will expect the h/cap sec to phone and speak to his old h/cap sec to find out if he was a regular player in comps and if the h/cap was accurate,i had it done a couple of months ago when i moved,so why don't you just play comps at your present club before moving?

Sorry but you may have a point but it isnt what i was asking

Firstly i do not have to justify my reasons of not playing official comps or how long i have been a member

My question was one of advice not to be questioned to why i had not taken part

So back off with the negative comments about me who you do not know and contribute with something positive for a change or do you just enjoy being mister negative all the time

:)

i don't wish to be negative but your original post makes no sense to me,your asking about moving clubs to play in comps but don't play them at your present one just seemed a strange request for advice.

Hi all,

For me this is an interesting thread as it is one that could be myself in a couple of months. Started playing golf a couple of months ago and got a 26 Handicap (3 cards signed and handed in). The club i have joined (Suffolk Golf and Country) is fantastic (friendly and welcoming), but i have just played on my own whenever i have the spare time as i have always thought that i'm nowhere near good enough to go and join in with any competitions.

Went out for a round yesterday and worked out i would have scored 33 on Stableford (not a bad score so i am lead to believe) which has now got me thinking about joining in with some of the competitions.

My issue is i am going to be relocating to the north West (Aigburth Area) and will start to look for a new club so will be in the same situation as Wolfman. What club to join and what competitions to look at getting involved in as i don't understand all the Medal, Swindle etc etc.

Is it as simple as take your HC printout from your old club to your new club and then speak to people about joining in with the competitions? I can feel a prolonged chat with the club pro coming on and bending his ear for plenty of advice!

Well we will have to agree to disagree, there isnt anything suspicious and like the last post many people join clubs get the handicap and then move on

This is my situation, i am looking at a better club and feel its time to take part in the official comps as i have the time to take part now.

Many golfers ( like myself ) join clubs to play golf not to play comps i.e social knock about / swindles etc etc

So back to the original question i am looking for tips / advice about playing in competitions i.e common formats, how are they drawn, what to expect etc etc

Cheers Wolfie

Well at the risk of also being seen as 'negative', how about asking at your new club? Every club has different procedures for competitions, there's no point whatsoever asking on here how it will work, unless there happens to be a member of that club on this board.
