I'm having trouble with that very basic element of the set-up: the grip. When I first was shown how to hold a club I was taught the interlocking grip, which I'd used ever since. Recently, though, after reading that the overlapping grip is the most popular with pro golfers, I switched.
This grip feels fairly natural sometimes, other times not so much.

Is the overlapping grip best to stick with and work on, or should I just except that I'm too conditioned to the interlocking grip now to ever make a sucsessful change?

I don't think that there is a best, it comes down to what you're comfortable with and what your hands are suited to. I have small hands so overlap is never going to happen.

Its a personal thing. I use the interlocking as I have smallish hands and it was easier when I was learning. I've tried to use the overlap from time to time but after 30 years it just seems totally alien now. My advice is stick with what you feel comfy with and get a pro to make sure it is correct and that you are gripping in the fingers and the V's are correctly positioned

I have the smallest fingers known to man...

And yet I overlap. Interlocking feels most comfortable, but because my hands are small my right hand kept slipping under the club (I hope that makes sense)

I'm not so sure I agree that small hands = interlocking, but anyway - overlapping for me x

Started off using a baseball grip because I really didn't know any other, had a few lessons and was advised to use the interlocking grip. It felt very awkward and alien at first but perservered with it and just feels natural now, my glove size is a large, so I assume i have generally small hands?

I started off with baseball but finished up strangling the club. I switched to interlocking which took about a dozen swings to get used too and have stayed with it since. I have changed my thumbs to a more neutral position lately and things are going much better. I seem to be able to stay much more relaxed through my swing now.

I used interlocking for 16 years until one day I broke my finger and was forced to switch to overlapped. I don't think I'd want to go back to interlocking now... even if you paid me :D

Its funny there are people on here who interlock because they have small hands and people who interlock because they have large - I think it just shows that it is just down to preference.

I wear a ML glove but have always interlocked it just felt better to me when I started.

I overlap--how ever i overlap two fingers. Read an article that the late great irish golfer Harry Bradshaw (he of the infamous ball in the bottle open) used this grip to help him stop pulling/hooking the ball left. My bad shot always went left--since using this grip the wayward shots are more of a draw than a pull/hook.

It works for me.

You are quiet lucky, I have a left handed grip on right handed clubs, cant hit the ball any other way. i took some lessons, and the pro tried to teach me the other way, but I just couldnt do it.

I am interlocking, played like this since i was a kid. I guess i had small hands then and now it is the only comfortable/natural grip for me.

I would suggest you stick with it but just check everything is correctly positioned. Dont want it being strong or weak etc.
