Getting a draw with your driver...

I'm getting the impression people prefer fades, I've always read draw is the better ball flight. I've got a lesson on Saturday so will see what he says. I only had 1 big hook on the range practicing this this morning before my round, none on the course. Obviously one day out of years of golf isn't exactly convincing data 😅 I definitely felt I hit it better though, although could of just been a good day

Some of the best players that have been hit stock fades

Woods
Nicklaus
Monty

It appears that it's a more natural shape for most to hit

Not really notice much difference between draw and fade in regards distance

Get a lot more control from hitting the fade

Getting a draw a touch wrong can destroy a round

Would always swing what comes naturally

A stock fade would be a better and safer option although your pro will put you on the right tracks

Well at the moment I have the opposite, tend to slice it, so wouldn't it be better to get this right, rather than working on getting my slice to be a fade? I am still quite new so none of my swing is ingrained yet, still very variable but the thinking was that I would be better getting this type of flight right rather than improving my current slice ridden swing :)

Getting a repeatable swing that is in-to-out, or only slightly out-to in at worst, should be the first priority!

Starts with the your grip and is controlled by your balance! Everything else can be adjusted to make that happen!

Balance is the 'forgotten key' imo! Try taking a backswing and holding it at the top; then mock a swing and hold that at the finish! There are plenty of folk who would fall over at either of those 'finish points'! If your brain/body is focussing on staying upright (it's 2nd priority - the 1st being avoiding injury) it's highly unlikely to be able to able to control the swing sufficiently to hit the ball properly!

Then it's all about sequencing and athleticism! Simple game really!

Edit: This (Bomac's) drill could help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsrovFJ3o9I
It's better than an alternative I have seen work with a slicer who gets worse each hole - aiming right and getting the brain to auto-correct'!

I never try draw a ball unless I'm stuck behind a tree. Too destructive for me

can't be as bad as loosing 5 balls in the trees in on round from slicing them :) TBH my own fault, I think there are only 5 holes on the course where a slice goes OOB so I should of just stuck with a more reliable club :) practice practce practice :)

I suppose it all depends on your home course whether a draw or fade is favourable.

i prefer a draw as my home course can be quite windy and a fade would be uncontrollable at times, plus there isn't one hole where a fade would be favourable off the tee.
I've just got rid of a driver due to me not being able to hit a draw with it.
I've played a draw for years but I've found certain drivers just want to cut slice push and fade

You will probably see better results hitting a gentle fade and getting your equipment dialled in so the ball runs on landing

Trying to hit a shot that is not natural often is a sure way to increase your scores

Do you think after 4 months I would have a natural shot? At the moment I tend to hit it either dead straight or a big slice..... of it drifts in the air right or left it's usually more to do with the wind. Just changed from a 12 degree ping g20 to a Nike vapor speed set at 10.5 degrees and neutral

Most golfers slice

The NATURAL shot for GOLFERS IS A SLICE, a hook is on the whole not a natrual shot (YES YES, some people hit this but MOST golfers do not)

So you want to hit a shot that is the opposite of what comes naturally to you?

I've been taking lessons with my pro on drawing the ball. My fade turned more into a slice and, for me, learning the rudiments of a draw now means I can fade or draw my irons and rescue clubs, and my driver is going pretty much straight. I'm beginning to feel that I can play either fade or draw where necessary which must be a bonus in the long term
