Garden short game practice...

So my new garden is quite big and now the sun is out I venture out there to do a little short game practice. So I've got a SKLZ Fly Trap, a couple of target circles 3ft and 6ft and three buckets with water. At the moment I stay at one point but chip to the varying targets and the switch clubs. Just wondered if anyone did anything in their garden that they found helped on the course? Three things Im working on are:

- quality of contact
- controlling flight so chipping low and floating high
- landing in my target area

Cheers :)

I used to try to lob balls over the hedge, greenhouse and land it on the bird table before the patio and french windows. Never broke anything but the bird table. Don't think my folks were over keen on me doing it, but they didn't stop me. I'd pitch into arm chairs too off nice tight lies.

Switch targets, lies, clubs, practice with purpose and consequence.

Hey Tiger, sorry for digging up this old thread but how has the garden chipping practice helped on the course? I only ask as I have been out every night this week chipping at different targets. At the start of the week I felt like my focus was on technique but as the week as gone on I've found that I'm thinking just about the target and have surprised myself the number of times I'm hitting it. Obviously I need to transfer it to the course but I'm hopeful it will help.

What happened to the Hawkeye I know who wouldn't be seen dead working on his game

Thought you had that affliction at Ascot too

No, at Ascot I knew how to play the shots, I just wasn't very good at them :D

The truth is I'm playing with a lot of guys my handicap or better, I drive the ball better than most, my approach play is equal to most, my short game is worse than just about all of them.

I ventured out to the garden also this evening, have pop-up tent that my kids play with. Turn it onto its side and try to chip it the doorway.

Skulled a few into the back fence, then duffed a few. Then I made a video of my next 5 or so, watched it and put the clubs away. Poured a pint of guiness - practice over.

Followed the pint with some homework on youtube, got some leadbetter tips to try tomorrow night :)
