Ganton?

Any of you men played it and if so what should I expect? Managed to get a cracking deal for Saturday so 4 of us are heading over for a knock and I am really looking forward to this.

Looks like there are plenty huge,deep bunkers to avoid!!!

Stopped off to have a look one time whilst down that area on holiday. You won't be disappointed. It's a good enough course to have held a few 'big' events over the years.

Played it 3 times. Take plenty of balls...

Not the longest unless of he whites, but accuracy is absolutely key. Greens were perfect all 3 times, best I've ever played on. Layout is clever with no two holes playing the same way so if its windy beware.

Last 3 holes are great, especially 17th if it plays as a par 3 - good luck in even reaching the green!!

Also, clubhouse is VERY old school, so take shirt and tie, and definitely use the rear car park and don't change shoes etc in the car park either, you're likely to get shot. Saying that, you'll get a really warm welcome and the food is lovely.

I'm very jealous, enjoy!

Avoid the bunkers. They are very nasty and definitely cost a shot...

Top Place, played it last summer with some clients who are members.
Superb track with excellent views, and greens always good I understand.
Very 'Old School', so dress appropriately, and mind your P's & Q's, and do behave in the Clubhouse.

Not particularly long, just those bunkers to wreck your card, which amazingly, I managed to avoid the whole round ! (One of 'those' days)
Even came back in level Par ! Ahhhh........what a day......

Just hope it aint windy.......

Went there with my Dad about 30 years ago trying to get a game whilst on holiday.

We didn't end up playing there but it looked fantastic and the stands were still up from a tournament that had just finished.
Ended up playing at a course called Malton & Norton instead.

One place I'd love to play, have fun!

Great course, played it quite a few times over the years.

The bunkers can be horrendous as you cannot see many of them from the fairway.

It is a pretty tough track if you are off line but very much worth a visit.

I'm jealous just thinking about it!

Clubhouse is, as others have said, very stuffy. I found the welcome to be quite varied. I've had days where we've been very welcome and others where they couldn't have made it plainer they didn't want us there. Bit strange.

They'll try and push the "famous" Ganton cake on you. Don't. It's horrible and dry.

Superb Course, you should really enjoy it, hosted The Walker Cup about 8 or 9 years ago.

If you don't fancy the Clubhouse for your post-round drinks, try the Ganton Greyhound pub at the top of the lane (can't miss it, you have to drive past it to get to golf course) nice atmosphere, good food, they also offer special rates for people playing the golf course

I was lucky enough to play Ganton a couple of years ago.
What a great course.
It is sometimes described as an "inland links" and when the wind blows, as it did on our visit it felt like it. Just looking at the angle of some of the trees/bushes shows how big a factor the wind can be.
Yes, the clubhouse is a bit like going back in time but don't see anything wrong with that. Everybody including staff and members made us feel very welcome.
As for the course well it was in great condition.You could lose yourself in some of the bunkers.
The 16th is a great Par 4 and if you play to your handicap you can feel you have had an outstanding day.
