Def not just you!
REally struggling to get anywhere near handicap although I am coming up with some great shots - but unable to string things together when it matters. 2 medals about 8 over each time, Stablefords 28 - 30. Think it is now in my head I can't reach this handicap (acquired following 'review') even though I feel my game should be up to it. Some shots are shaky, but mainly it's all in the mind. Maybe I need to start scoring myself off something higher to take the pressutre off???
Have got a lot nearer when playing on 'foreign' courses, i.e. no pressure.

That's it I've hit rock bottom. I only played a friendly today with HTL and we were both playing two balls as there was a 4 ball in front but I was so bad that I actually contemplated just walking off after 13. I've never walked off a course EVER, not even as a tantrum throwing junior.

I stuck it out as it was quite entertaining watching HTL and his new 2 thumb putter grip and seeing him try every possible combo to hold it and get it in the hole. And just to prove that the golfing gods do mock the afflicted, I hooked my drive at 14 after deciding to plough on, hit a wood about 80 yards short, hit a so-so pitch and left a downhill left to right break of around 25 feet which was perfect speed and weight and dropped centre of the cup for a par. After that though back to the same rubbish.

And so that is it. All golf and practice suspended like a European flight for a week. I'll see what the rest does for me and will probably play nine holes next Sunday afternoon. After that I'll see where I go in terms of booking a lesson, playing my way through it or grinding it out on the range. At least I've finally hit rock bottom and so everything from now wil be an improvement

Pretty much constantly hitting a shank with any of my wedges, its so bad that i didnt play in our medal this morning, dont know what the problem is,but one thing is for sure i will not be picking a club up anytime soon in a competition.

Try practice swinging right handed only with a sand iron - makes you clear the hips correctly on the downswing. Poor hip rotation i.e. not clearing your body out of the way may well be the reason for your short iron shanks - it was for mine. I have had them in the past and always with wedges too - that is the only drill that I have found sorts things out. You need to be balanced correctly too - you should be able to lift heels and lift toes at address i.e weight on balls of the feet. I hit some good wedges today at least!

Thanks for the tip BM,will give it a try next time i'm out. If this doesnt work then it will prayers to God,Allah,Budha, sponge Bob, anyone,

Don't despair everyone.

Its golf
It happens
We all go through bad spells
They may last a couple of games
they may last a couple of months or more

But the good times will return. The Sun will come up. There will be more beer to drink. The world will not end.
In this I am a Sensei!

I have been there, I have struggled, I have overcome and kicked its butt!

Have faith fellow White Ball Chasers.
The time is nigh!

The moves worked so looking forward to the Castle Stuart weekend...2 x 36 points over the weekend but todays was a good knock off the medals and on a tough day so all is good again. no doubt I will be back to chopping it by 9 am tee off at Crieff on Friday!

Nice encouragement and so true. Just hope it happens for me today- off to play in inter-club friendly - my first 'appearance' for The Park fingers crossed.

Birdieman, I'm struggling for any consistency and I put it down to a lack of golf. I'm not hitting it great at all.

Weans and the weather are my problems at the moment as well as a nagging wife!

My game is worse than rubbish at the moment, to the point I'm getting anxious when there are people around watching me hit shots. Never used to bother me in the past, but at the moment, I'm rushing to get out of the way, and looking behind to see if there is anyone stood watching.

Case on Saturday when out playing a friendly. Played the first hole ok, and on the par 3 second there is a bench near the tee with two people sat on it. My honour, so I go through the pre-shot routine, and start to feel conscious of the fact there are people watching me, and then proceed to shank the ball towards the 16th hole.

Later on we get held up, and when the two ball behind catches us up when I'm on the tee a few holes later, I start to panic and rush and end snap hooking two balls into the rubbish about 150 yards from the tee.

I don't know what has happened recently, but I've started to feel uncomfortable on the course, and becoming more concerned about what is going on around me, rather than enjoying the game. :(

my game is in and out at the moment, probably due to a very recent swing change - the wrong time to do so methinks!
I know I fall back into the old ways if I'm not careful, then I get over anxious, swing too hard and fall apart, but when it works, it do go well!

There was a young springer, stripped down to her scanties sunbathing on the left side of the 13th on Saturday. Amazing how many players suddenly developed a snap hook to go have a peek.
