Well i seem to be going through a bit of a purple patch at the moment and long may it last. Shot my first sub 80 round in a comp yesterday hitting 79 for 41 points with a 2 thrown in for good measure! Will be a nice cut to either 12.8 or 13.1, either way im over the moon. 6 weeks in with the new G20 range and 3 shots off my handicap, a very happy chappy indeed.

Many thanks GM and Ping!

Well done and congrats on the up and coming cut!

I have looked at the G20's myself but already have the G15's.

Is there much difference and would they be worth the swap? Sorry for hijacking your thread. ;)

They are some impressive stats for you both, having had the bats just a few weeks.

Did you feel that the custom fit helped with confidence or is it simply that the new clubs are helping to boost your game (or both )? :D

Heard a lot on here about the new G20 driver being very forgiving and my mate who was at a corporate do at Ping recently came back with one and I can confirm its transformed his driving and his whole game / scoring potential. He was hitting his last one (G10 I think) approx 3/4 of the drive as me and rarely straight - now its within a few yards of my best and straight every time (so more than me). He tells me its the confidence to hit it now - before he always felt he was struggling so gave up on the shot a lot.

Hey Moonpig is not alone, I was cut 2 shots on my first outing with mine and today in my second round I shot 40 points off 12 so that should be a cut also. Cannot fault that in any way.

Really couldn't say Matt as i haven't used the G15s, my old irons were the Nike slingshots but im sure someone else on here would be better to comment.

The custom fit was essential for me in my opinion and to be fair nothing to do with confidence. If anything i was more sceptical after the custom fit having moved from reg to stiff shaft in the irons and 10.5' reg shaft driver to 12' stiff. Having said that the tranformation has been remarkable especially with the driver, it just flies long and straight. I would estimate that i have added at least 20 yards more carry, driving around 230-240 yds compared to 210 ish before. Its not the distance neccesarily that has made the difference but just hitting more fairways and giving myself a chance for GIR. Can't recommend thecustom fit, driver and irons enough.

what really makes the diff for me from the custom fit was getting my lie angles osrted, and i REALLY notice the benfit with my SHORT irons and wedges, which now just go up and down the flag, and i thought i was good before ;)

All of the clubs have added 1 to 1.5 clubs distance, and are really good for low dispersion and mishits going a really good distance.
The hybrid is a thing of beauty and i honestly think about taking it to bed with me so that it doesnt get nicked from car, garage, front room .

i didnt get teh G20 driver - i got the K15, in 9.5 degrees and reg flex - it goes MILES and MILES .

I hit the 5 wood at the range miles - havent quite replicated this on the course regularly yet.

i am soooooooooooo pleased with these clubs

These Ping's must have something going for them. Even our club pro who rarely gets any of the latest models in unless specifically ordered has a set on sale. If the short irons (9 & PW) didn't look so uninspiring and chunky I'd give them a go. Sounds like a definite thumbs up for C/F though

it's odd Homer
i thought the same - my previosu wedges and teh ones before that were Hogans and Mizunos and all blades.

These chunky wedges are a revelation - the ball just pops off the face really consistently - they really are a pleasant surprise

Down to 12.2 after another good round on Sunday shooting 3 under handicap !

Is it definitely down to the clubs Moonpig.

Good question, haven`t had any lessons or even been down to the range since i have had them. To be fair i never really went to the range or had lessons before. Maybe my decision making is better i really don`t know. My partners are commenting on my improved driving and general iron play but is that down to the clubs exclusively..... hard to say. One thing is for sure they certainly haven`t done me any harm.

Are you hitting more GIR's with them?

Far more if im honest mate, a lot is down to being in a better position from the tee meaning that i am hitting my second shot from off the fairway as oppose to semi rough. Also my iron shots are far more consistent meaning that i can be more positive with my iron selection when approaching the second shot resulting again in more GIR.

Sev and Moonpig, you guys obviously had the GM promotion treatment, but do you know if Ping charge for CF normally? I'm after driver & 3-wood and the G20s have come from nowhere to pretty much top my list of contenders, even above R11s and Titleist 910s.

Is it the fitting centre at Gainsborough GC that is the main one? Looked on Png's UK website and couldn't see where the CF venues were...

Gainsborough is the HQ for Ping and therefore if you can get there the best place for a CF. Certain golf clubs have the fitting cart but for the true CF experience Gainsborough is the place to go. Regarding cost Im not certain but i believe they charge a small fee around £30 ish not sure if this is then taken off the price of the clubs if you buy. It would be best to get the number for Gainsborough off the net and enquire.

My best mate was having a driver fitting at Rivermead in Reading last Sat and he had his eyes on a Ping driver - they have the fitting cart there, so I'll let you know what that turned out like for him to compare to Gainsborough

The fitters at Gasinborough were great - we hit balls solidly for about 90 minutes or more - i think a normal appointment there might be closer to an hour, but youll be knackered by then :)

Re: the difference the clubs make for me
I'm getting v consistent and very long from the K15 driver; couple that with 1 to 2 clubs less means i am hitting doubly shorter irons in to greens than previously.
Howeever, what really seems to make the difference for me is the wedges, believe it or not. i used to be a bladed wedge snob - no more. I think the key point is the lie angle for the wedges is now right for me and from 75 yards in i am hitting wedges straight up and down the flag which is giving me more birdie putts than before.

What is (happily) "worrying" is that on the range and the course last Friday, i REALLY started getting the shafts working for me - i.e. they were really starting to load on the backswing and release at the bottom of my downswing, and as a result the ball was fairly zipping off the face.

i have to say, even though i got on well with it at the fitting, i am still hitting th 5 wood 50:50 (albeit the good 50 are really very good)
