When things like this happen, can we not all get a PM about what went on? I'm not saying this from a gossip monster point of view, but it would be nice to know why people are dramatically leaving the forum and moderators getting a weeks paid leave etc. Or maybe a 'members only' post in Out of Bounds, or something. I'm not interested in what he said then what she said, just a "He swore a lot and got banned" or "They fell out so he decided he wanted to leave"?

Yep... must admit - My only experience with either are purely on here...

Haven't had much to do with either but I know which one I would rather spend a few hours with and have a pint with after.

Mods all do it for free, so no payment involved as far as I know.

Not sure a post about what happened would work as it's just gonna cause more arguments / debate about whether it was right or wrong etc.

A PM to all saying 'x has been banned for 1 week for x' might help, and maybe act as a deterrent(?), on the condition that there was no discussion of it openly on t'forum as it only ends up in threads like these. Useful to know who is currently active/banned, but we don't need to know why. Just ends up with pointless discussions about 'who you'd rather go for a pint with' etc.

That is the problem. People behave out of character on web fora and what would be understood as banter in person can look like something else online.

I have met both. Picked The Craw up from Gatwick airport when he flew down to take part in the GM v Ping match at Walton Heath a few years ago. Really nice bloke, friendly, chatty. Met up with him again at Castle Stuart a year or so later. Again, nice bloke.
Played golf with G1BBO at Blackmoor last year, first met him at Woburn last March. Nice bloke, chatty and friendly.
I'd play golf/have a drink with either of them again. Nae bother

It baffles me that people don't understand the powers of perception though!

An email going out to my lads would be written a fair bit differently to a group of people (some you know / many you don't) online. Why is it ok for people to act like total inbreds on a public forum just because a small people know them and can vouch they are nice people in person.

If people are decent why be so hard to get along with on a forum everyone wants to enjoy. Some people will only post offensive or provocative threads to stir it up.

True some like to have a bit of fun and others take themselves far to seriously.


But the fact remains is that Crawford is a great guy, and has done more for this forum in the last few years and most will ever.
Countless meets organised and was always willng to help, if asked.

I'm sure gibbo is a nice guy, i don't know the whole story, but it sound lke he was out of line.

PS Smiffy is a knob, but i still like him..... just

hello all

a quick email to clarify the situation with regards G1BB0

I issued him with serious infraction yesterday evening following a PM to another member and comments made in posts that have now been suspended.

The nature of the comments made his position as a moderator untenable and with regret (because he's been a diligent moderator and great supporter of the forum) I reemoved his moderator status.

I think it's fair to say G1BB0 accepted this was the right course of action

A little later he then made further inappropriate comments and at that stage I felt I had no other option but to issue an immediate 7-day ban.

G1BB0 was disappointed to be banned but again understood why I had taken the steps I did

I'm sure he'll be back on the board when the ban is lifted

I have decided to now lock this thread as I dont feel any more debate will be helpful
