I am having difficulty with my swing, free swinging am fine no problems whatsoever as soon as i address the ball i can't even swing half a swing i go all stiff and tight, to start with it was just tee shots now its crept into the rest of my play even irons/hybrids .I have gone from mid handicapper (player of the year in my society last year) to really thinking about giving up as there are a few good players in the society which is due to start playing in a couple of weeks i really don't want to look like a donkeys backside. If anyone has also suffered similar difficulties please let me know i know its all in my mind and i need to loosen up and tell myself i can play but any tips to help me do this would be much appreciated.thanks for taking the time to read this.

Sounds like that might be a clue! You feel under pressure from last year and have the weight of expectation of this year. That is a lot for the best players shoulders, let along someone playing a sport for a hobby!

Lift the pressure, revise your expectations and swing with freedom.

Thanks the only problem with that though is its happening even when i am out with a couple of mates just for fun having a knock around ,i have even tried not keeping a card so there is no pressure at all but still stiffening up addressing the ball.

The pressure doesn't just go away because of the company, its more far reaching than that. Its probably every time you think golf, touch a club or see something golf related.

If you can start by taking the tension out of your hands first it will take it out of your arms and shoulders. However only you can take the tension out of your head. Giving up is not a good option, your letting yourself off the hook too easy. You have a golf game, you know it, relax, enjoy and then you will move forward, not the other way round. Progress in golf is not always linear.

To many swing thoughts creating tension? Try doing a practice swing behind the ball the wlk up to it and just hit it, dont worry about the results it will just get you used to being over the ball in a relaxed manner. Probably best to try this at the range first

Welcome aboard Paul, sounds like you need to get yourself a waggle.

Think am going to have to try going back to basics and slowing it all down re-train my body,i go out at least once a week but keep trying different things angling body etc and its really not helped at all if anything my game has got worse.I am trying to compensate for the ball slicing off when really its the swing causing the slice as quarter/half swing isn't going cut it.Am going to practise more after taking golf up again a couple of years ago and steadily improving i realise its some sort of mental bock causing it but think am going to have to try re-training.I love playing golf and going to the different courses with the society .

A lesson may give you some confidence and take your mind off whatever it's on.
