Free coaching session

So, if you want a golfer who can show you how to play a great shot, then by all means dismiss the WGTF. However if you want a coach that treats the Inner and Outer game with equal importance, has expert COACHING skills, is conversant with how important providing effective feedback is, is non-judgemental, has expert swing analysis skills and puts the clients needs above everything else, then the WGTF for you.

I leave you with some questions. When a PGA coach assesses you on the driving range what good is that? It is not contextual. It does not reveal your true game, hampered by the pressure of the course. It does not reveal your Mental State skills, or Course Management skills. Is your current coaching reflective of the breakdown of percentage of shots you play in a round? Putting %. Short game % etc. Do you know these stats for your game? You will if you are coached by me. How could I coach you without seeing you on the course? I would NEVER coach anybody apart from complete newcomers to the game without seeing them play at least 9 holes. It is compulsory. I cannot see their true game unless this happens.

Do any of these coaches walk the course with you and take details on EVERY shot you play? I do. Do you get detailed information on five aspects of your game? The Power Game. The Short Game. Putting. Course Management. Mental management. I do. Does a PGA coach spend lots of time with you working on your mental state management skills, assess the strengths of your various senses (sight, sound and touch) - essential knowledge for a coach.? I do. Do they analyse and enhance your pre-shot routine? I do. Do they provide you with home based visualisation exercises, relaxation exercises and techniques for creating mental state triggers and anchors? I do.

In essence. I challenge anybody to undertake my free evaluation and pass the details on to the editor who is supporting this process. Whilst one person will be featured, everybody that accepts this challenge will receive a report that will provide a breakdown on how to improve their game without making any SWING changes whatsoever. Does the PGA coach offer you that? I doubt it. Do they guarantee to improve your game? I doubt it. Do they set long-term goals? The majority don't. Do they set goals for the sessions? Many don't. I do both and more.
Great reply Tim and many question I for one would like to answer....

I must be extremely fortunate in that the PGA Professional I go to for lessons/help/advice offers me all of the above and more.I play a fair bit of golf with him and to be totally honest I can pop into his shop and tell him what is wrong at any given time and he cures me sometimes even without having to see me hit a ball as he knows my dreaded swing inside out and that has come from many rounds of golf or time on the Practice Ground,I have faith in him as he was a top player on the Tartan Tour when he competed regular and still pops it round Goswick in sub par regular.

With regards to the mental side of the game that is not at all for me,I have a routine that is mine and I do not need someone with a qualification to tell me what he thinks I should be doing, goals wise I have my own personal ones so again I don't need someone with a piece of paper to set them for me.

Everyone has there own opinions and mine is that I wouldn't go near a WGTF coach and a lot of that has to do with the fact a fair amount of them can't even play the game to a decent standard let alone a better standard than I do.... I have yet to meet a WGTF coach that was any better than Cat 2.

As I said earlier in the thread don't let me put anyone off as this is just my opinion on the subject. For me any offer would be declined as it is my PGA Pro everytime for advice with all parts of my game, his '18 hole assessement' costs me a pint or a pint from him depending on who wins not £115. ;)

I'd like to take part but it's too far & i can't do during the week due to work commitments, shame though as i really feel i could benefit from advice/coaching from an outside party as i really want to break 100 & be consistent with it, i'm not far off but just can't get to that next level. :) :). I'll carry on with the slog, i'm sure i'll get there eventually.

Dodger,
Do you rate Harold Swash as a coach? (EGTF and not PGA. He lectures regularly to the PGA and a wide audience throughout the world)(Check out how many tour players he has helped including Padraig Harrington)

One of the greatest golf coaches ever, could not hit a ball (wheelchair user) and gave sound advice to Kite and Crenshaw from when they were young to the day they won majors and beyond. He never demonstrated a shot to them.

Talking with the head coach at The Belfry, Garry Alliss, the tells me that when coaching top players to beginners he never demonstrates a shot.

I am always careful to keep an open mind and make my own judgement on what I find in life.

Well done in achieving an impressive low h/c and enjoy this great game.
