Those replies are genius. You just would not get that today in our media trained world.
Before my time really but growing up in the NW I saw plenty of clips of him from his Bolton days. Someone who enjoyed himself in all aspects of life and brought a smile to people.

saw him about 25 years ago, swanning round York Races, cowboy hat on, ponytail, and 2 blondes in tow. He certainly knew how to enjoy himself!
Probably the epitome of the 70's playboy footballer. Not many people could carry off that look but he could. There should be some good clips on Sky Sports tonight, more on the local news in the NW of England.

Last time I saw him play was the Everton v Southampton Cup Semi- Final at Highbury in 1984 and he pulled off one trick, which left the Everton defence for dead, but was so clever no Southampton players reacted either.

When I was in the 4th form I remember another “Class 4W” of Wallington, Whitworth, Weller and Worthington. I remember the crowd singing, “Allo, allo, Frankie Wortho, Frankie Wortho, allo, allo, allo.”
And I remember our school team that included a gobby goalhanger, who later got to train and play with his boyhood hero to help him to live his dream. The memories remain, but with more sadness than before.

He played for Brighton in a pre-season friendly against the non-league team I worked for the mid 80s and scored in the first minute. The manager blamed the defender who was "too busy trying to get his autograph than mark him". Out of respect for the player concerned, I did not use that quote in the paper that week. Just been talking with said player on social media and he remembers it like it was yesterday describing Frank as the wiliest most devious striker he ever tried to mark.
