Foursomes

Enjoy it immensely. Tests your powers of concentration especially if you've not had a long putt for a few holes then get 40' plus to play.....

been fortunate to win 5 foursomes club titles 2 on the bounce at one club and a 3 peat at another.

Used to play it in our local league which was played early / late season. Good fun if you get the right partner as it's as much about keeping your cool as hitting good shots. Our maxim was "never apologise!"

Love it. Beautiful, pure test of golf and nerve.

Don't mind greenrooms either, as log as it is a wind down after a decent lunch and a couple of nice bottles of wine.

This - love it. Happen to have foursomes match tomorrow and combination we face sound tough. Guy off 10 who used to be off 4 (hmmm) playing with a 22 handicapper. It will be tough. I will have to play well and give good guidance and support to my 19 hc buddy. But we can prevail.

I was never a great fan until I played Deal Golf Week at RCP lots of foresome style comps on. At my club we have a shotgun start comp that is foresome better ball medal, out as a 4 with 2 nominated pairs, best net score on each hole goes on the card.

And so we owned them from the get go - and won 5&4

Played well and worked well as a pair

Onwards and upwards!

Whether it is just a coincidence or not, but I went in to my foursomes match during the week playing pretty badly, started playing well towards the end of it and then played really well yesterday.

On reflection - key reason we won - and one reason I really enjoy 4somes - is that although me and my buddy didn't score well - on a hole-by-hole basis we played the opposition and what they were doing - fully of taking into account which of our opponents was next to play when we were considering our next shot. I reckon we were playing in the 16-18 shots dropped over the round. But that was irrelevant - we took the shots we needed to to win the hole or not lose it, with getting pars or bogeys never being our objective.

Nice win!

I love being able to chat to my partner about the shot/putt ahead too, always find myself thinking better when Im explaining what I see and always good to get a second opinion. I gues sthats what its like playing with a caddy. No wonder them pros score so well

Agree - all part of enjoying the format

Also if it is your buddy's shot next you consider his strengths/weaknesses in context of opposition situation in the hole as well as your own. Really good thinking things through.

I like foursomes, but I have found over the years that it's a better game if your playing partner has a similar game to yourself.
I have played with a guy who is shorter than me but a lot more consistently accurate, we both found ourselves playing the sort of shots were weren't used to. I then played with a guy just as long and wild as me, we gelled very well and were more successful (plus he had a higher handicap than the 1st guy).
