Forgiving Drivers

Havent tried this years offering of the ping G range, but have had the previous two 25 and 30
both horrible feeling drivers, forgiving maybe but you cant tell where the ball has come off the face.

loud ugly things would steer clear.

i did struggle with the driver all last year.

three things helped me

Mini driver

R15 with heavy stiff shatf

and lessons

ive gained 20yards easy and straighter

i now take foot spray to the range and hitting the middle of the face more offten than not,

Now that is an interesting article.

I have a fly-z. I think it seems pretty forgiving, and these numbers seem to bear it out.

fwiw, although the G30 may seem to offer a gnat's chuff more forgiveness, there are four things that mean that I will choose the fly-z all day long :

- the sound of the fly-z is MUCH better than the G30
- G30 has a longer shaft, which makes it less likely for me to hit the middle
- the fly-z looks MUCH nicer
- the fly-z is much cheaper

So 'raw' forgiveness might not be the be-all and end-all

Double Black Diamond.

That model I don't think is very forgiving and is aimed at people who can hit out the centre more times than not, I'm not sure of the model but the Big Bertha Alpha 815 which I tested amongst another 27 drivers in March 2015 produced my best stats that day in very cold conditions and with poor quality range balls, I know James Ridyard and Joel Tadman both tested the DBD but I'm sure mine was a basic BB Alpha 815, 10.5* core down.

my driving consistantcy is better than ever with the Titleist 915 d2 try one you be supprised how forgiving one is you don't lose a lot of distance when you miss centre .

Just shows how personal a driver is and To hit or demo as many as possible.

5 people in our swindle (approx 25 members) all switched to the g30 series this season and all have seen huge improvements in their driving.

One who started the year off 27 is now sitting on a majors board playing off 19. None of his game has changed other than his driving. He opted for sf tech version

Another close friend went m1 and backed out around 60 days in. Went to a standard g30 and had added about 20 yards to his previous distance with the r1. He has also dropped from 23 to 19.

I use the two examples as these are two handicap brackets that would normally struggle at club level with the big dog and both have seen huge success in changing over with no other changes in their bag or lessons.

Whether it's the placebo effect or not......... But both would not change this driver of you paid them.

The first Mizuno EZ model is easy to hit and a nice looking clubhead to boot. No idea about the current one as it's "adjustable"

I had a 2014 big Bertha found it a bit heavy and hit it right a lot. Took a punt on a tidy titleist 913 d2, a bit older but can be got for 100 used in good condition. Lovely bit of kit, forgiving and straight. Worth a try anyway

I used to have a 10.5 degree ping g15, couldn't get on with it. Purchased a 12 degree Taylormade r15 which has improved my driving (along with a lot of hard work, no end) I now always pull it from the bag. Normally end up on the fairway or first cut. Yes my distance isn't amazing (averaging 180) but I have hit a couple of 240 drives with a perfect connection

I am not sure about this smaller head at 430cc means it's workable, I have had a few and seriously felt they were just the same as the 460cc head plus they lost power when off centre.
I now just buy the forgiving version, knowing that my yardages will be pretty consistent allowing me to plan my around a course.
