Forget playing - how many hours per week do you actually PRACTICE?

I have a driving range 2 minutes from work & home and my mates run it.

Until I got injured I was going 4/5 times a week for 80 balls. I would also go to the short-game area at the club once or twice a week for the short-game stuff.

Now I am going to the range twice a week but will step-up practise levels once full-time golfage has resumed.

You would never of known judging by the way you used to knob it round John
:D :D :D

At the moment none. There's no real reason for it as the range is a couple of minutes from the office. It's going to change from next week as I'm getting more and more p***ed off in comps where I'm shooting at least 10 over my handicap.

I've done that in almost every comp I've played this year! Welcome to the non-practice club!

Sadly no time to practice at the moment. Do not really have time after work now and if I have time at the weekend I would rather be playing.

Try and get up the course half an hour early to hit a few but cannot always even manage that. Suppose that explains the stagnant handicap.

Probably a couple of range sessions a week, usually between an 45 to 60 mins each.

If I have time I'll try to fit in a practice round or two during the week after work as well, or even 9 holes if I can't get a full 18 in, just to try to get what I've been working on the range on to transfer to the course.

Hands up who thought I'd be here on this one!!

In the old days I'd say I was practicing 3-4 times a week and playing one midweek round and at weekends. I've said before I did way too much over the last two years and to be honest it knackered my game. I'm restricting myself to one midweek session on the short game and a range session on a Friday (to practice for the competitions on Saturday/Sunday) and playing as many holes as I can instead on the other nights. I have to be fair and say that now the nights are beginning to draw in I'll be going to the range more often

NB: A few minutes on the practice putting green before you go out doesn't count!

I spend 4 hrs a week.....Roughly.....
2hrs on a tuesday evening putting + chipping and 2 hrs on a thursday 1 spent putting and 1 spent on the range........

I also try and get a half hour of putting in before a round but lately i havent bothered as our putting green can be vastly slower than our course greens.........

Im patient and know that it'll stand me in good stead....So im looking at it paying off in 8-10 months time rather than 8 weeks........

"Played in the club match on Sunday.
I'd been down to Sand Martins in the morning to brush up on bunker play, chipping and to hit a few balls after the mediocre range session on Saturday morning. It couldn't have gone much worse and there was no timing, consistency and even the dreaded shanks started to put in an unwelcome re-appearance. I wandered home for some lunch and then up to Royal Ascot in a worried state.
This was compounded when I headed onto the practice ground for a few looseners".

I see what you mean Homer.... ;)

No much for me at all. Months since I was at the range although I do plan to go at least once a week from Oct to Mar to try and keep some kind of swing going.

During the wnter I can go a couple /three weeks without playing (although with bad winter last year it was ore like 6-8wks) and it seems to take me a long time into the season to play anywhere near decent. I hope the range session will help.

I also find golf on my own on the course can be very boring so if I have time at the course its normally spent on the putting green.

The problem with the putting green is it's too near the spike bar. After a couple of Stellas, I'm not convinced that continuing the practice is worth while.

I've hardly done any practicing for about the last 6 months but that's about to change. I'm hitting the ball worse than I have done since I started playing again a couple of years ago. I'm actually scoring OK as my short game is OK, but it's hiding the fact that my swing is a joke. I'm also having some ridulous luck on the course, sliced my drive on a par 4 last week which bouned off a stone bridge and landed dead centre of the fairway. Then thinned my approach which ran all the way along the fairway to finish at 6 foot. Scorecard showed a birdie, fairway hit and GIR, but that's not the truth of the situation.

So for the next 2 months I'm planning on playing a maximum of 2 rounds with 3 or 4 practice sessions a week. Probably have a couple of lessons as well

In that cae zero. I go to the range once in a while in the winter but only if the course is shut at weekend. I usually find time to practice short game an hour or so a week but haven't even had the time for that this year.
