For those who want a 3hr45min round.

So the reason for these Super-size holes is to attract more people to golf....
Attract them to Golf or a game based on Golf?
I'm sure it could be fun chipping and putting at these oversized holes but the idea is not to replace normal golf with this. So people come along and start playing, it's virtually impossible to miss from 6 feet....
They now try to graduate to the proper game....how quickly will try have to improve their putting to be able to get the ball into a normal size hole? They'll soon lose interest in the normal game in favour of the new version....
How does that help "proper" golf?
Most clubs don't have space in the calendar to fit in a few extra events of this kind - which will be an annoyance to existing members who don't want to play "Mickey-Mouse" golf....
And new players will still have to get the ball to the green....which is probably just as difficult. How do you combat that? Have 10-pin bowling style bumpers along the edge of the fairway?
If a new player is going to play golf they have to learn how - getting it of the tee, getting it down the fairway and on to the green, then getting it in the cup...all are as important as the other and watering down 1 aspect won't help the other parts.
If anything, if they want to make golf easier for beginners then they should focus on getting to the green. As they say, with a bit of practice there's no reason for any one to be a poor putter.
I still reckon building pitch'n'putt courses and decent par 3 courses is the way to go. Keep it as proper golf, just shorter...

As usual, I agree with him ^^^

I thought this was a thread on slow play, and perhaps a longer pre shot routine.

Can't get longer than Charlie Wi last night !!! That was shockingly poor but they ( USPga ) will not do anything about it when these guys should be punished and made an example off

We played this morning and went round in 3 Hr 40 - great flowing round and were held up once on the second

The group behind us took 4hr 20 mins and lost 4 holes and held up the whole course !! The reason is because two of the guys have extremely long PSR on every shot !

Played this afternoon on the wee Ashludie course - round in three hours exactly behind a two ball (visitors) who stood and had a discussion at least ten times in middle of fairway - I mean a five minute chat, they also stood and watched each other play their shots before heading to the next ball - pre-shot routine worse than any pro - they were four holes behind a four ball and didn't catch them at all - There are times when four hours doesn't feel long on a course - this was one where 3 hours felt ages.

Played the Medal (1400 yards longer) in front of a four ball of ladies of a fair vintage playing a county comp who knocked it round in under 3 hrs - contrast was incredible.

I actually timed Charlie Wi last night. From the moment he and his caddie had agreed the club and his caddie had moved out of camera shot it was another 55 seconds before he hit the ball

And about a minute for the chat with the caddy - so possibly two mins per shot !

Sorry

Re: For those who want a 3hr45min round.
Pro's need airtime to show off their sponsors on their shirts, jumpers, hats........

It's not due to showing off sponsors etc - it's down to elongated PSR and the sooner players are punished the better

I remember watching Keegan Bradley on the TV, and they started showing his pre shot routine, and then decided to go and show another player. When they came back he was still stalking the ball.

Wonder how long he takes to order in a restaurant

lol i know.... i thought my pre-shot routine was slow.

It won't happen. And if it does you can't enforce slow play penalties on the club golfers.
I seem to remember a forumer on here, saying that he had been penalised a shot in a competition for slow play.

Pro golfers can very easily be penalised as it is not too difficult to time them. In a lot of sports players deliberately slow the game down to get an advantage. Nadal springs to mind, England cricketers when they are losing. I am sure there are golfers that are being put off by other players slow play. Rory Sabbatini when playing with Ben Crane springs to mind.

It has happened but needs to happen more often

Certainly can enforce slow play penalties on club golfers !
