For the flying display lovers...........

Lived near plenty of air force bases in my life from the '70s onwards....there's nothing like a pilot in a Phantom pointing the planes nose to the sky and hitting the afterburners when you are pretty much directly below.

Oh, yes there is! The English Electric Lightning.??

But , yes, thevPhantom is awesome. Saw one taking off from airfield I was stood nearby at the end of runway. He nearly didn't get up and away and was not very high over me.
His navigator bailed whilst still over runway.!! Seems the pilot had a mechanical problem and didn't think he'd make it off the deck.

They were good carrier sea planes. Replaced the Buccaneer which was a lovely aircraft.

Worked Buccaneers for three years. Good electrical system with easy to identify cables, extremely reliable engines and nightmare hydraulic systems. Generally good detachments including Flags at Nellis.
