For sale section, advert removed.

Just out of interest...........
Apart from "because the rules say so", why does there need to be photos with the initial post? Never understood that

why would you think that photos of the actual FS item would be useful right from the start?

To whoever it was who removed the ping driver ad I placed in the for sale section, a PM of the reason why it was removed would be appreciated. Thank you.

They were removed because there were no photo's as per rules.

If photo's are not posted with the initial post, it's then very often overlooked and the never get posted.

I did say I would put up pictures when I get home, something I've done before and something others have done. Is it a big deal, it's not a business I'm running.

Is it a big deal to wait until you get home to post with photo's?

i will back up the mods here i'm afraid. the rules are there that pics must be included. I understand you have been here for donkeys years Tommo and have a high post count etc etc, but just because of that, it doesn't mean there is one rule for long standing members and one for newbies. moderating a forum is a ball busting, thankless job for guys here that most likely have normal jobs too!

I agree that a nudge from a mod may have been called for, but i'm all for a single rule for all, regardless of post count, time on forum, reputation etc.

Sorry, just my opinion.

Personally I think it's a little heavy handed myself.

People have, quite often, and on more than one occasion posted an item for sale with the stipulation that they will post pictures "When they get home", and to their credit, do.

What's the difference here?

I understand that there are rules, and for good reason, but the application of the rules must be fair.

I'll watch with interest what happens to the next thread, advising "Pics when I get home" to see what happens.

I kind of agree with you, but why not just wait until they get home to post the advert??!!

I agree with Bob in that if you are interested in buying said item then why not request pictures. Also for those of us that do not have computers at home posting pics is not always easy. You can try and do it from your phone etc but the size of the screen doesn't make for easy posting.

I can understand why it was removed, purely because they are the rules of the FS section but they seem a bit strict, and as already said, Tommo should have received a PM or something telling him why his post had been removed.

Some adverts do slip by we (the mods) don't get paid for this and have other things to do so can't check every post. If someone posts and advert with the rider pics to follow or on request then they have the ability to post the pictures at the same time. This is a free service that is provided by GM and as suChris we have to abide by the rules laid down. If you don't like those rules there is always eBay.

Don't get me wrong Chris, We, the forum appreciate the work of the moderators on here.

I/We understand that you have your own job to to aside to moderating the forum and appreciate not all threads will be monitored.

I have seen posts on here, as have others, where a moderator has commented on a thread requesting pics and allowed the thread to run until posted, often as promised later in the evening.

Could that same level of freedom not be afforded to all posts? Then, if pictures are not forthcoming by, say the following day ( or 24 hours from posting), the thread is pulled?

The trouble is Gareth, we're damned if we do and damned if we don't.

Each mod might see things in a slightly different way. Think of us as referees, I like to think I play advantage and let the game flow, where others will blow the whistle straight away. We try to be as consistent as possible within the forum rules but if we use our initiative we're told we're inconsistent and if we go by the rules we're heavy handed.

As twire has said each mod will see things slightly differently, if I see a thread in the FS section without a picture then I will generally move it. The rules were brought into place long before I was a member of the forum so people that have been here since day dot knew the furore surrounding the I production of the rules. As I say though not every post will get checked so inevitably some will get through but just think you can then use that as a stick to beat the mods for being inconsistent ;)

I agree Twire.

Rules are rules and the referee example you give is a good one, and very apt to this situation.

I think the confusion comes in, when as Chris rightly points out, a thread in the section is missed by the mods and allowed to run, while another, in Tommos case, is pulled pretty much straight away.

If in the case, as Tommos, where pics will be posted later. Would a polite PM to the moderators suffice as an indication of intent to post pics later in the day, to prevent the thread being deleted? If the pics don't appear remove the thread?

I agree that posting pics in the original post (As per the rules) is ideal and a good rule that protects both buyer and seller, but not always practical. I can see both sides of the argument here, I'm just looking for a "Happy medium" to all concerned.

I have brought and sold quite a bit on the forum and find the facility to do it excellent.

I'm still confused as to why folk can't wait until they have all the information. If you were advertising on ebay, or putting your car in autotrader, you would gather all information before placing the add.

To go back to an earlier suggestion, why post a for sale advert (where speed isnt really an issue as it will take days to come to a full end, after postage etc is involved), then go home and post pictures? do it all at once and get it done right.

I can't speak for othe people on the board T.

Whenever I have sold something using the forum I have always supplied a picture in the post (As per the rules) and will continue to do so.

Other people may post without pictures " as people have before". No excuse I know, but it may be the reason why.
