OK - it's a penalty shoot out........

The penalty taker strikes the ball, it hits the cross bar, comes down, hits the 'keeper and rolls over the line.

Does the penalty stand?

I think, strictly speaking the answer would be no in a penalty shoot out however they are given.

The reason is that (iirc), in a penalty shoot out once it bounces off the frame of the goal the ball is dead.

I may be wrong but sure I've read this somewhere......

I would have said no in a pen shootout , i for some reason thought in a shoot out once the ball stopped going forward it didnt count .. may have dreamt that tho ha , is there an official answer to this yet

Sorry just watched Dodgers link .. scrap the above statement ha ha

Agrre with the above, I've a mate who is (was) a prem linesman, and he asked me this one years ago. Yes a goal, if in ordinary time, but not in shootouts.

That said, he was the lino for that recent Stoke vs Spurs game (yes that one).

Here's one for you.
It's normal time and the ref awards a pen. The taker takes it and it hits the post. The keeper went wrong way. The rebound comes back towards the penalty taker he lifts his leg to strike it an gets fould by a defender and tumbles to the ground. there is no other attacking or defending player near the ball
What happens now?
A. Play on
B. penalty with no further action against the defender
C. Penalty and red card for defender

I dont understand why it wouldn't, the ball is alive until it stops moving

if a keeper pushes it onto the post and it goes in its a goal what is the difference

I may be wrong or it may have changed but it's different in a shoot out (I think) to a penalty in normal time.

In normal time, the ball hits the post, play on as with any shot.

I'm sure I read somewhere years ago that in a shoot out it is different and once the ball hits the post and comes back towards the taker the "kick" is over and the ball is dead.

I was pretty sure i heard the same .. shoot outs are one off kicks , there are no rebounds & the game is over so the ball is technicaly not in play as play has ended .. not sure anymore tho

I would think B as a foul was committed even if its off the ball its still a foul & as its in the box its a pen,, no red card because its not a goal scoring chance , if the guy scored it would have been dissalowed as no other player had touched it .
