Went out for my first round today after what is now 8 weeks of not being on the turf. The venue was Montrose medal course, 2 fools thinking they would brave the links on a fine day.

On the first tee there was a 3 ball just coming on behind us, brain goes into a wee bit of overdrive, hows my feet, am i standing the right distance away, to many thoughts, then my mate tells me to just hit the effing thing. Head clears and smack away it goes straight down the middle 230ish. Nerves are now settled and away we go. Front 9 went well 5 over and then we make the turn and it all goes t*ts up, 15 strokes in 2 holes  ah here we go back to some normality. After this it goes ok some pars and some bogies then the the gorse decides to swallow 2 balls off the tee end up with a 9, a couple of holes pass then i decide to break out the 3 wood, oh dear the divot almost passes the ball  but not to be defeated i trundle up to the ball 3 wood still in hand and give it a good clout with no divots woohoo mate asks why i could not have done that in the first place, to this i just shrug my shoulders and walk on, if i knew the answer i wouldnt be playing of 20!!.

So any way end up 14 over for the back 9 for a grand total of 90 gross net 70, most enjoyable and not to bad for no golf in 8 weeks, and to top it off i beat my mate by 1 stroke once hcp's were taken off and for some reason he called me a bandit!!

Wouldn't be too despondant mate. Montrose is a toughy at the best of times never mind middle of winter. The first couple of times I played it, it destroyed me. Soon got the better of it though. Might be playing it on Thursday as a matter of fact. Warm up for St.Andys on Friday. Will let you know how I get on.
Keep up the good work though, nice front nine.

I played on Saturday on my own and gave up after 14 holes, I just couldnt use my irons on the soggy ground and for some reason my slice returned with my driver, the only good thing to come out of the day was £2 a pint in the club house.

Toad,

If I'm playing , I'll be teeing off about sunrise 8.00/8.30ish. I'll be playing with a big tall guy (6ft 4") So if you see me give me a shout. I know what you look like so I'll do likewise.

Would love to meet up for a game Mass, but I'll be a guest myself on Thursday so I can't take it upon myself to invite others without asking my playing partner first as he will have to use a guest ticket for me.

Am I the only one on here who has to go to work, talk of a game on a Thursday, Friday or any other mid-week day makes me v.jealous when all I have to look forward to is another day in the office.

You lucky lot! GRRRR!
