Just wondering if there are any forumer's that live in the central Florida area? Down here working for the next 12 months and have a distinct lack of people to play golf with.

So if you live here or just visiting, give me a shout, hopefully we can meet up fora game somewhere.

Bumping this rather short thread, although judging by the reactions to the 1st post, it might be in vain....

Thinking of a trip over next year, take the boy to a few parks and play some golf amongst other things. Wife has been before and suggested Kissimee, but has anybody any recommendations of areas to stay courses to play etc?

Kissamee is great.
We stay at Windsor Hills or Windsor Palms villas just off US192. It’s very central for Disney and loads of golf
You can do it budget or five star the villas are brilliant.

It’s a golfers dream. But expect to do some mileage .

Orange county National is awesome it’s where the tour school play two x 18 holes Crooked cat, Panther Lake and a nice 9 hole.
Best practice facility I have ever seen.

Champions Gate GC is very good.

Celabration GC is good but gets wet so check before.

Legends GC on US 27 is excellent.

El Campion course at Mission Inn GC is fantastic.

It depends where you are staying really.
Also the time of year the cost rockets in their dry season.

April May is nice and Oct Nov after the storms have finished
Everything in the US is miles away it’s that big I can do you a list of courses once you know where you are and your travel limits.

We use Golfnow.com for our golf they have offers if you wait until 24 hrs before booking.

Cheers. I'm thinking about this time of year, so 12 months from now - looking on Vrbo there looks to be some great deals on rentals available, but I'll be taking a look at the courses you've listed. (y)

Davenport is another area of Orlando worth considering. We’ve stayed around there several times of the years, the last occasion being at Highlands Reserve just off Highway 27. There’s a resort course there, although I didn’t play it. The area is handy for the parks, which are about 30 minutes away, and several courses are within reach.

Loads of options for rentals on VRBO.

Davenport is excellent and a bit more out of the traffic on US192

Highlands reserve is a lower tier course ,still nice but it’s a copy of a links course but just dosnt work because of the Bermuda grass.
Nice little opener to have a swing though.

Bermuda grass is another story if you have never played it before.

Plenty of Bermuda when we lived in Spain. I never really had an issue with it but one of my mates on his 1st experience of playing it just could not get his head around it all.

Few more to consider / investigate

Southern Dunes - one of my personal favourites. Take your bunker A-game!
White Heron - water, water everywhere. Formally known as Ridgewood Lakes
Grand Cypress - 27 holes ex LPGA venue. Wouldn't bother with the links.
Bella Colina - can be pricy. Stunning locker rooms!
Championsgate Country Club - not to be confused with the original 2 Championsgate courses
St. Cloud - best "links" style I've played.

I haven't played it...... Yet! My trip next May will rectify that. But Deer Island about 1 hr from Davenport looks absolutely stunning.

Deer island is a fabulous layout.
On one hole you drive over a private inlet for a boat house of a mansion.

Been there a few times and condition can change a lot depending on the weather it can get wet ,but when it’s good it’s very good.

Thumbs up for Southern Dunes best conditions I have played in Orlando.

Lake Berkley is a lovely gated community place to stay. Another vote for Southern Dunes, extremely friendly and clubs to hire were top notch (choice of the latest Callaway or Srixon). The course was in superb condition.

Not golf course related but … good shout on the villa rental. The price differential between villas and decent hotel rooms in that area is insane - there’s clearly an undersupply of hotels and a huge oversupply of villas. Last time we went, I did some gentle research and for the same cost as a pleasant but ordinary single hotel room sleeping 4 (and who wants to sleep in the same room as their kids for 2 weeks?!) we could get a 5 bed villa twice the size of our own house with its own pool, games room, etc and free access to the gated community’s resort level facilities too.

Solterra is the best of the gated communities we’ve stayed in. More than nice enough; didn’t feel like trading up to the likes of Reunion was worth it.

I wholeheartedly agree. Villas are the way to go

We have booked a villa with private pool and hot tub in Davenport for £90 a night next year.
