Five Club Comp

Playing in a 5 club comp next week one club must be a putter, any sugestions for the other 4. I was thinking
3 wood, 22 deg rescue, 8 iron, sandwedge. What do you think any advice?

PW instead of SW as you can open it right up and its still got bounce for the bunkers, the rest sound fine

There seems to me to be too big a gap between hybrid and 8 iron, but it depends on your course.

We play a 4 Club Challenge at our place and before I first entered it I had a really good think about how I would play all our par 4's. I had already opted to go with a 19 degree rescue, so knew all the par 5's were out of reach in two - I then had to figure if I got a decent drive away with a rescue at the par 4's, which iron would I be likely to go with most often for my approach.

I ended up with the rescue, a 6 iron, PW and putter, and knocked it round in 7 over gross to finish runner up.

With a little thought and planning these events can be great fun.

Make sure you have the right clubs for the par 3s and the rest will fall into place.

Ours was 3 plus putter and I went with driver, 7 iron, sand wedge.

Did rubbish but the reasoning was sound.

I think the OP's selection is good. I may change the 8 for a 9 though. The hybrid is a flexable club that can be used to manufacture many different shots, the 9 should give you a good chance from around 135 in and be good for chipping. The wedge will be good for bunkers lobs and short chips.

Ive got a four club challenge in december and Im taking a 20 degree hybrid, 7 iron, 52 degree wedge and a putter. Our par 3's are usually either a 7 iron or the hybrid for me and I can hit my hybrid from the tee and the from the rough which makes it the better choice over the 3 wood for the longer holes.

Think I would go. Rescue, 7,9,PW and putter. Even most par 5's can be reached with 3 shots with a 7 iron. Then a wedge or chip on the green. One good put and thats par. At the worst a bogie?

Should cover most shots. You should feel comfortable hitting whichever clubs you choose for full and knock down shots. Enjoy it, it`s fun.
