played today with my brand new scotty cameron putter making its debut and after having 3/4" taken off my new 909d3 driver this morning i was at best looking to play just under my present handicap of 19.0,ive been consistently playing to around 14/15. 1st hole long 530 par 5,double bogey,a few pars and 2 birdies later i was stood on the 8th tee level par (gross),typically i triple bogeyed the par 4 8th and bogeyed the par 4 9th to end up 4 0ver after 9, nor more birdies but i had 4 pars and 5 bogeys to finish up playing to 9 and a round of 81,one of my new year goals was to break 80 and know i could have done it had i not triple bogeyed the 8th which is normally a steady par. playing tomorrow so i'm hoping for a repeat performance. i'm absolutely chuffed as its the first time ive played to single figures, previous best was 10 and 11 over.

Well done but just remember that in golf it can be a case of one step forward.... so don't go out with any expectations and don't be too upset if you don't match todays performance. Mind you it might be you are in a purple patch and that you'll go lower and lower so good luck tomorrow

i have a quiet week at work so i'm playing tomorrow, maybe thursday and friday, saturday and the february medal is sunday,i'd be happy to keep up the consistant rounds ive been playing since the end of october, playing to around 14/15 regularly, ive been close a few times to having the round ive had today but just done a few daft things and ended up playing to about 13 or 14 instead of 10ish. i didnt do anything special either today,it was a nice steady round and i was playing within myself comfortably,i just i can take my game on now and get the handicap down and keep up the concentration and consistency.

And you're off 19?
I'm pleased I'm not playing in your medal on Sunday

i joined my present club last september as its virtually on my doorstep, the club i was a member at until 1st jan was a very tight unforgiving course with very tricky greens, the local golfers all say that whatever your handicap is there you'll be atleast 2 shots better off at another club/course,i had a few very good rounds whilst i was there, ive only been back playing a little over a year after an 8 yr break. the last medal i played at my present club i was 5 under and the october medal i was 3 under,i was off 20(19.9) then and because the css was 69 and 70 i think i only came down 0.9, i'm not one for protecting my handicap and i play all the comps,i dont even mind playing 3/4 allowance.i'm just happy now that at my new club i can hopefully get out of it what i'm putting in,been practicing loads over the winter improving my swing, short game has suffered abit with the bad weather as i havent been able to get on the short game practice area at our club. it'll come i'm sure!

well done mate, know what you mean about replaying the holes when you get a bad one and wonder what the score could have been. hope you get below 80.

Lee,...

I think I know one of your relatives who used to live in the Leatherhead area :D

There's a shady character on the forum who plays off quite a high h/cap, used to live in the Leatherhead area... last seen running off towards Ascot with a huge wad of cash after scoring 41pts at Lewes.

When I say shady I actually mean that he's Welsh , but shady will do :)

BTW: Congrats on your very fine round! :) If you convert that to stableford it's probably about a billion points! :D

Good scoring.
Sorry to rain on your parade but SSS at Malton is 69 of the yellows and 71 off the whites despite par being 72 so with a gross 81 you've played to 12 handicap if you played yellows and 10 handicap if you played whites, not quite single figures yet! Nearly though! ;)

good point,i think the excitement got the better of me
you still did great, weather permitting you could take another shot of this weekend and keep it there. good Luck.
