First Post...

Thanks for the tip, I'll bear this in mind when I head over there :)

Any pointers in what else to buy?!

So so far I have... A set of clubs, a bag to put them in, some tees, some balls (some new ones and box of lake balls to lose!!!) a pitch mark repairer, some pencils, a glove and a spare glove... Should this see me right?!

Waterproofs for June and July :D

Ah. No worries. For a moment there I thought you were cool.

Lol. Harsh, Thin Air is an obscure-ish Pearl Jam track, fans of whom (like myself) are diligently obsessive and see references to them everywhere. Its not a cult. Definately not a cult...

All hail Eddie.

Ah right, I see now.... Unfortunately I'm a bit of a house head, with an appreciation for all sorts of music, put not an in depth knowledge of Pearl Jams back catalogue! I'll go and check this song out though, seeing as this is the name I use for my DJing!!!

It would have no place in one of your sets I assure you. ;) Na it's a pretty poor song imo, written by a guy who has only penned one or two tracks (just as well).

Love my house too, adolescence in the 90s will do that, the fact that I haven't grown out of it is both a worry and comfort. Not sure if you know of Fish Go Deep (aka Greg & Shane) but they've had residency in my hometown of Cork for over 20 years, beginning at the legendary Sir Henrys where I cut my clubbing teeth. They've gone very deep these days but can still put on a show, this is them (gorgeous vocals by the beautiful Tracy K)..

Oh yeah and we talk golf too ;)

Welcome along.
I grew up in Kearsley and I know the range very well, I used to spend most evenings there beating balls when I started playing the game.

Nowadays I head over to Chilli dip quite often, they're a good set of guys in there and I'm sure they'll help you out if Theres anything you need to know.

Its the perfect time of the year to start playing the game. Good luck

I love this track... Defected is a great label, probably one of my favourites!!!

The guys at Chilli Dip I've found to be really friendly and more than helpful! Nice range and that 9-hole course looks like good fun!!

The 9 holder is actually a real test and is fun to play, but whatever you do, don't play it after we've had a deluge of rain as it doesn't exactly drain very well/at all!

There's also a really nice 9 holer at Charnock Richard, just a bit down the road. Yarrow Valley (For when it's been raining and the one at Chilli Dip is still a bit boggy).

Guys at Chili Dip are very good, they've just taken over the Pro shop at my course.

I will bear this in mind when we've had a downpour... We don't get that many in this part of the world.... Honest...

Always good to have a recommendation, cheers Duckster!

Welcome aboard pal.

I'm up at chillidip most nights. Good bunch up there.

They are also now stocking a full range of Vega clubs (must resist)

Are you planning on joining anywhere?

Chilli dip 9 holder would be s great place to learn the game. It think it is very cheap for a membership.

Anyways

Best of luck. I'll keep an eye open for you.

Cheers buddy, would be good to meet some people who know more about this game than I do, no idea about where I want to join if I am honest, its all a bit daunting and my google search seems to have revealed an absolute raft of courses and clubs in the area.

I'm planning on spending a bit of time up there as well, but I work shifts so I'll be there at all sorts of times of the day!

I have no idea what to look for in a golf club, but it is my intention to join somewhere as I don't think I can learn the game properly just by playing on the range or sporadic rounds with my work buddies.

I should be easy to spot with my awesome Dunlop bag and clubs

Dont go getting your hopes up pal :D

For a starter course you could not go far wrong at Chilli Dip / Douglas Valley. Its got a good mix of holes, is cheap as chips and is quite tricky.

Like wise Phil or Craig the Range pro's will certainly help you get the basics right. They also do a lot of beginners group lessons. Think they are only around a tenner and include free balls.

I am sure you will be utilizing your 64 degree wedge like Mickleson in no time;)

What's the chilli dip range like? Just curious as its down the round from my father in laws, I drive past it on the way and always think of bringing a couple of clubs when we pop up.

Best range for miles.

That includes the Trafford park one. Good setup, cheap and very decent balls.

The balls are more like standard distance balls as opposed to the low compression rocks at the Trafford centre.

Good to see how many boltonians are on here! If any of you ever fancy a knock at deane golf club let me know :)

Once I think I'm at a standard where I ain't gonna make a complete tool of myself, I will definitely take you up on that. I can handle looking a partial tool, but complete tool is a no go!

I haven't been in for a while until today but These things are sex on shaft. At £200 an iron though I'm going to have to stay strong for now ;)

Thats more than my entire setup, including balls and accessories cost! I'll definitely have a look when I am in there next time!

Been here a couple of times now and really like it, very friendly staff, facilities seem good (I have little basis for comparison), nice selection of shiney stuff too. I've been to the Trafford centre range as well, and definitely prefer Chilli Dip. I think coz its smaller it seems friendlier and that's a big +1 for someone new to the game like I am.

Aldo thin air where are you going to be working? Company I used to work for were just found the corner from the range.

I work around Salford and the City Centre.

+1 for this, Tuggles. The views are better than the Trafford Centre too!!!
