first lesson/ driver suggestions

hi guys, had my first lesson today but wasnt able to get out to the practice area due to it being flooded, so the pro just went over my clubs to see if they were right for me. it ended up that my irons are fine along with my hybrids. it has been recomended by the pro to get a new driver which i thought i would be anyway and a new 3 wood, so im just wondering if you guys had any suggestion of whats good before i buy. i have another lesson booked for next week in which he said ill be able to try out possible clubs but just wanted other player views of whats good or not.

Seems like a cunning ploy to get you to part with some serious cash. Did he see you swing the driver at all. Doesn't sound a very good pro to me and just on the make

His old driver might have been a persimmon one. Pro told me to ditch mine 3 years ago, and my driving has been crap ever since.

its always scary when a pro insists on new clubs, how long have you been playing, and how long have you known the pro?

My pro told me my stiff shafted (but flexed worse than a reg) 4th hand Wilson deep red II needed replacing, my steel shafted 4 wood and my 10 year old beginners £129 3-sw irons needed replacing!

I was so shocked!

Actually I wasnt, the way I was swinging it was very clear that a whole new set would do me a lot of good. I had pretty much no tech or working tech in any of my clubs and the driver could only produce a high strong fade.

Result... with new wedges a new 5 wood and a new driver I promptly went out and won two of my 1st 3 comps!

Since then I have only been getting better as my swing improves, still yet to be consistent as the huge cuts on the handicap have made it hard to win again

he hasnt seen me swing the driver at all but i mentioned at the start that ive always had problems hitting my driver, so he had a look at it and said that it needed replacing due to it being forged of different metals that it was too heavy in parts which ment it spun in my hands creating the slice i always get, he also said the shaft was wrong and needed a heavier one.

and the 3 wood need replacing cos it sits up off the ground too much and he said would be hard to hit off the deck, which i said i never do cos i always get bad results.

and ive only knowen the pro for that one lesson but he is ment to be very highly regarded as one of the best around.

i am gona get a shot of all his reccomendations next week when we go out on the course, so at least ill have tried before buying. also he says i can replace both for as little as £89 but can go higher if i want a better brand name than the Benny ones.

sorry but after one lesson im not to keen on this. it could be totally justified, id post a list of what clubs you have and a video of your swing and get bobmac to give you an unbiased view, or one of the other knowledgeable players.
