So like alot of other people I went around my new course, Brampton Park GC for my first handicap round (only played the course once before)

here are my stats:
http://golfshot.com/Rounds/Detail/66-3823031-3823111

Overall, although I was +32, I took alot of positives out of it. My irons were going well as were my wedges and even putting.

I was a bit shakey and lost a few balls becuase of this, in a breakdown:

Hole 1 - Tee shot went left to the 18th green, safe 9 iron back into play, soft 9 iron to the green hit a tree and landed in the water, penalty shot, chip to green 2 putts.

Hole 2 - Heavy drive, left 120 yards, took a soft 9 and thinned it across the green, lost the ball, took a drop, nudged a wedge, chipped back on and 3 putted.

Hole 3 - On the green in 3, 3 putted for 6.

Hole 4 - tee shot to the right, took free drop as was on path, hit a wedge over water hit a tree and went in, another drop, wedge over and 2 putt.

Started playing well and moved to soft balls on 7.

Hole 14 - tee shot to the left, now a shot through trees, hit the trees 3 times, im now going 270 yards for par. Thus the 9.

Hole 18 - Poor tee shot into first bunker, out the bunker, 5 iron to green, hit greenside bunker, two shots to get out and then landed in a cavity at the top finsihed on a 9.

Just need to get out again for round 2!

Yeah bloody things! Hopefully second time round I won't be as nervous. Once I hit the 5th, big par 5, I was fine hitting good consistant shots, until the tree incident!

The range doesn't prepare you for that!

It happens. You know what to expect next time and out and try not to consciously try too hard. It is a real card wrecker even once you get a handicap and is something I'm guilty of all the time in competitions. It's no coincidence once I relax with a 0.1 increase already guaranteed I start to play better golf

take the 2 9's and the 8 out of it and it was a pretty tidy round Phil. I am similar and aslong as certain aspects of my game go well then I always view it as a step forwards, the negative parts can be worked on.

on a sidenote Phil, how do you find the golfshot app? I take it you input data as you go/end of each hole. I am using mycaddie Pro (freebie app) but found it a bit slow to update distances and a pain for putting data in

was gonna get a standalone but for 17.99 golfshot may well do me for a year until I join a club/play comps

Thanks for your input guys, all in all it was a really good day, I met one of the club pro's in the pro shop and played in a foursome with a friend and two of his usual partners - they all play below 10, so got a lot of input on how they play the course. Hopefully get to know some more players soon then get in the comps etc.

G1BB0 - I really like GolfShot, I've got the £17.99 app and find it invaluable. The distances and aerial views are brilliant and every course i haev played is on it. The stats are good aswell. Obviously taking it out your pocket, unlocking, putting in score/check distances, put back in pocket can get quite tedius.

My misses/her family brought me a Golf Plus Caddy Lite which you can clip to your bag and check distances instantly, downside is the £40 outright for membership and courses. Its a great tool, but I'm not ready to spend £40 on it yet.

For £17.99 Golf shot is brilliant.
