Today I had my first golf lesson (can't wait for next lesson, this saturday), my instructor got me to start with a 7 iron, is this the norm? forgot to ask:o, managed to hit a couple good shots:fore:. Anyone like to share their first lesson experience?

I have had 3 lessons now at Gleneagles and all have started with the 7 iron.

To correct the shanks I was having the Pro however got me to work up from short swings with the wedge up to 7 iron.

Don't forget that the general experience with lessons is that things often seem worse as you adopt the adice given, but with persistence improvements do occur..,I hope, or I've wasted my money:confused:.

Another one here that started with a 7 Iron in the first lesson, working upwards from 1/2 swing, 3/4 swing to full swing. I also had that enthusiasm for each lesson through Jan/Feb/Mar this year. And as has been said above my playing seemed to drop off at first (not that it was good to start with) but is coming together now.

Only ever had 3 lessons in my life and one was specifically for driver but yeah in my first lesson the instructor got me to start with a 7 iron too.

Really considering a short game lesson soon but just want to make sure I pick the right/best instructor. So if anyone has any recommendations for the Belfast or county down area it would be very much appreciated.

Start from the pin and work your way back. 65% of golf is played from within 100 yards so technically 65% of your lessons should be focusing on short game. It's a quick way of taking shots off your game,

Rubbish! 65% of my game is spent looking for the ball. Maybe that's what I should ask for lessons in.

I was a complete mess when i started having lessons so i started with a Sand Wedge, but my next 4 lessons i used the 7 iron almost exclusively.

Just had a five day residential course at sedlescombe golf course , was given a full set of clubs for the five days , 7 iron to be used for lessons , video swing analysis every morning and unlimited range balls and use of par three course and full course for all five days . Was brilliant , i now have a semblance of a swing instead of the half assed self assembled mutant thing that i thought was a swing , struggled when i came back for first few rounds but its all coming together now and am hitting the ball so much further and straighter that i`m actually overshooting everything by ten yards and thats going down a club from what i would use before lessons so two clubs down for next round , happy days , I never left the golf course for five days and after lessons was having at least two rounds on the par three course and a back nine on the full course . I thank my gf for this amazing gift and would recommend this place to anyone , friendly staff and a really welcoming atmosphere along with decent food completed five days of heaven for me topped off by seeing massive improvements in my game (still need more bunker lessons though) will deffo be having some more lessons somewhere if not down seddlescombe (a long way) as it turns out im no Bubba lol , my thanks and praise go out to Tim , our pro for the week who patiently put up with our fat , thin and sliced shots without blinking an eye or giggling . I feel like i can actually play the game now , chuffed
