Just played my 1st full 18 after joining Thornton GC yesterday, was getting really fed up at the state of the public course I normally play at and was offered 1/2 price at Thornton for the rest of the season.

Haven't played the course for about 25 years and boy how it has changed, not too long but very tight fairways, if you are slightly off line it can cost you a bogey easily.

Overall impression - tees 6/10, bit bald in places, fairways 9/10, excellent condition, greens 9/10, again excellent, facilities are good too.

Score, well wasn't really keeping tabs but would estimate low - mid 80's, not too bad as I didn't know the course layout or which lines to take.

Looking forward to first medal round on sat morning. Have added link into my signature if anyone wants to have a pictorial browse of the course.

Well down on getting a new home and for a half decent score first time out. Our tees are suffering a bit lately which I guess is a combination of them not being moved often enough (seems a common problem) the warm weather recently and the amount of traffic on them. It club championships this weekend (after my round today I'll definitely be having Sunday off with a missed cut) so all the whites were forward to protect the back placements.

Started OK, was only 2 over going down 8th, duck hook off the tee led to a triple bogey, then 3 putted 9 for another bogey.

Started back pretty poorly bogeying 10, 11 and 12 and only making par at the reachable par 5 13th, however thought I hit a reasonable 2 iron into the 200 yard par 3 14, was always drawing, got up to the ball to find it about 6 inches OOB, didn't bother going back to play 3 off the tee, NR on the card. tried a couple of outrageous tee shots down 16 and 17 that I never normally would hit (went for the green on both) If I still had a card going it would have been 4/5 iron and wedge to both.

If I'm being honest I didn't play too well, add that to some poor conditions yesterday, started the first 2 or 3 holes in heavy rain and a lot of standing water on the course, especially on some of the greens. (not an excuse)

That said I really enjoyed it and given a little more time to get used to how to play the course and getting the speed of the greens, I'm sure I can play to my handicap within the next few weeks.

More practice, especially on the short game required. Onwards and upwards and here's to the midweek medal on wednesday.
