Well today I had my first experience of singles matchplay competition in the first round of the Volvo Matchplay. It was a horrible day weatherwise and unfortunately for my opponent he gave me 11 shots due to his 9hcap and my 20 although he was at home so the advantage slightly reduced.

I made the most of the holes that I received shots on and shook hands on the 17th 2&1.

Despite the weather I thoroughly enjoyed it and must say a big thanks to Swanny32 for caddying for me and helping me concentrate even though he got absolutely soaked.

Here's looking forward to round 2.

Well played. I love individual matchplay unless it's against a pal from my club when I struggle a bit with the psychology of it.

Not exactly Volvo but I'm drawn against the best player at my club for the 1st round of the scratch matchplay... I'm anticipating an early exit

Well played good win away from home. Matchplay does make a nice change from medal or stableford.
Mates rates on the caddy too then hope the baguette wasn't too expensive :-).

Baguette wasn't too expensive, but he certainly deserved it after enduring the horrible weather for about 3 and half hours without actually swinging a club.

Despite getting very wet and pretty cold at times, it was a great day. I love a bit of match play golf especially when you come out on top. Opponent was a bit of a knob but still had a laugh.

Well done Davey.

Got my first ever matchplay tomorrow - club summer knockout.

Playing the dad of a mate who plays off the same as me - should be good and not feeling as nervous as on medal day etc

I would quite like to play someone off the same or close to the same hcp as me, as that's when you know how good you are playing. But I got my tactics right yesterday, and made sure I used the holes I got shots on to good effect. Hope I can continue that into the next round.

Give it a go next time your out in a bounce game with swanny scratch matchplay for the beers will give a different twist on your friendly knock.

Well done. I envy you - I go to pieces. I prefer matchplay against strangers like in club league matches and achieve better results when playing scratch m'play. Not sure why. They say you have to play your own game but I can't seem to ignore when a door is opened so to speak giving me an advantage but at this point I feel under so much pressure and usually make a hash of things/choke!
