Played today and took a rescue club for my 2nd shot at the par 5 11th.

Unbelievably it went in for an ALBATROSS. WE won the hole!

WE were on Temporary greens so my question is does it count?

You know in your heart of hearts it doesn't count, good shot though!

Doubtful, to be honest. :( Similarly, I've had 2 "holes-in-one" on a par-3 course. While it was amazing to experience them, I still don't consider that I've really had a hole-in-one.

I would go the other way, you are not responsible for where the green is, if its still long enough to be a par 5 then in my book its an Albatross, well in fella!!.

I agree. "Play the ball as it lies, play the course as you find it, and if you cannot do either, do what is fair". You played a par 5 in 2, an albatross in my book, well done.

Even if the hole's the size of a dinner plate? ;)

freddielong - Some winter holes are larger if they're cut on the fairway.

3offthetee - How long did the hole play & how big was the hole?

At my old club they were probably 15-20cm - can't remember exactly.

Different clubs have different rules. I know of one where if you are within a certain distance of the hole the putt was a gimme.
At my current club during winter they use the normal greens but to protect the area around the hole you aren't allowed to 'tend the pin - you just leave it in or take it out, it just doesn't matter if it goes in whilst the flag is in.

So the idea is to protect the area around the whole rather than make it easier,I couldn't get my head round just making the holes bigger, it seemed crazy.

I would like to revise my earlier post and say that if it was played to a standard size hole then yes it should count if not then no it shouldn't.

If he winter green is cut in the fairway so's to protect the summer green during wet/freezing conditions they sometimes cut a bigger hole because putting on the fairway (longer grass, less even, not rolled etc) is more difficult.

One thing for sure is that it was a 2!!

Whether it was "really" for an eagle or an albatros depends on how short the hole was being on the temp etc.

Regardless of which...........nice shot (unless it was a necky one that bobbled all the way there!!) :D

The hole was probably 420 yards. The green was on the fairway and the hole probaly 6 inch. Certainly more than the normal size

It would count in my book, you can only play whats put in front of you. well done ;)
