Eventually got round to playing my first competition on Sunday. Typically I saved my worst round of the year for it. 16 points I was embarassed entering that into the computer after the round. Hadn't played in a few weeks due to a holiday and a friends wedding, think I will need to hit the range this week.

It happens to us all I've been playing in comps 20 years and still manage to mess up and suffer 1st comp nerves. First comp at new club and start with a 10 ouch! Followed by many hacks and ended up nett 85. Dont worry I suspect you weren't the only one. Just makes you want to get out there again next time.

Played the second round of our Veteran's Cup yesterday and got stuffed 6 and 4 although I didn't play too badly for me at times. Very discouraging as it made me reconsider the advisability of entering knock-out comps where you are likely to come up against much better players. My opponent was off 14 and, after we completed the 18 holes for fun, had gone round in 12 over par. I struggle to break 100!!

he wasnt far away from his handicap albeit a tad under, and you had a bad day theres always next year. no reason not to play it can happen

Get yourself to ballyliffin this weekend, 18 points will be right at home, ask some of the scottish contingent from last year!
This is something I would love to do in the future, but as I pointed out it is my anniversary this weekend. 4 hours on the Golf course on a Sunday I will get away with but a weekend away over our anniversary would not go down well at all. Thanks anyway for the invite, but I think it will be better if I can play somewhere near my handicap before I take on a harder course. If 18 points is right at home at Ballyliffen I would probably struggle to get 10.
