Been a member of my club for just on a year now and finally played in my first competition today. It was a Texas Scramble and I made up a missing spot with 3 guys that I'd never met before. What a great format to try for the first time, no real pressure on, so didn't stress out. We shot a net 56 (15 under par), 7 birdies, no dropped shot, plus 8 shots due to handicap. Doesn't look like we won though as another team was already in with a net 52......

Still, enjoyed it so much, I could of carried on playing for the rest of the day.

It is a great format for social golf and getting to know new members. Out of interest are your monthly stablefords and medals drawn or do you just book up and play with whoever you want. If they are drawn try and get in as many as you can as it really is the best way of meeting other members, playing with better golfers and maybe even touching up your rules knowledge (only if you need to of course!)

glad you had a good time

scores tend to be low in that format as people seem to cover a lot of handicaps ie they know a good high handicaper
and two middle of the road and one low man
is a good way to meet people

now you should be ready to play a few more comps

Really enjoy Texas Scramble, which we always play on society days. Nine holes T/S in the morning, lunch and then 18 hole stableford competition in the afternoon, shower, jacket and tie, evening meal and presentation in the clubhouse after.

The 9 holes am set you up nicely for the afternoon competition, and the only real pressure is to get your 3 drives in - and you hope the best player has his last on the 9th.

As well as playing the monthly comps, see if you can get involved in a society. Once you get to know more members you'll probably get invited anyway.

Good luck in future comps.
