I am booking trains to/from London for Saturday and Sunday at The Open. Does anyone know what time approximately it would ordinarily finish on Sunday? I will have to take the risk on playoff holes etc to get back for work on Monday.

Cheers

If your hoping to see winner finish on the 18th you've got to get a spot very early, maybe about the time they're going out.
If you're not there early you won't see a thing, it's total bedlam, 40000 people trying to crowd around one hole.
At Hoylake we left after seeing Woods put out on 17, it probably knocked about an hour off the finish time for us.

Final group will be putting out on 18th at 17:48 Sunday

this is spot on, however the 5 hole playoff will mean a 7.23pm finish with Luke, McIlroy Duffner, poulter and G-mac (unlucky again Lee)

If you're planning staying to the end you might have a job getting a train......

I live locally and the "extensive" train connections from Preston are 2 an hour of 4 carriages (400 people maybe?).

They are only running from Ansdell & Fairhaven station which is right next to the 8th green.

Just be careful if you have a booked train back to London from Preston.

I, on the other hand, can walk home after :)

Thanks - just read that elsewhere as well. Am heading up with a mate so will stay somewhere and play a round up that way on Monday before heading back.

Are you sure about those trains? I thought there were usually extra trains laid on for the Open, there was last year at Sandwedge.

That is extra trains!

Problem they have is it's a single rail line from Preston along to lytham do can't have them running there and back etc.

Was the guard on one of the trains told me about it the other morning

It's been a 4-hole play-off since 1989 - so a few minutes earlier perhaps?
