I managed to finally get club in hand today and hit a bucket down the range. Surprisingly good too as I was obviously cautious about injuring the back further and so seemed to swing well within myself. I only hit my wedges, 9 and 8 irons but all seems fine.

Before the spook squad gather on HDID I've not entered the Haig Cup this weekend and so there will be no Homergate II. I might hit some longer irons tomorrow and who knows might risk nine holes on Sunday. The back did stiffen up and was a bit painful earlier but had some ice on it and then a good soak and that and a couple of ibuprofen and so far so good.

glad to hear it mate, just make sure you dont jump into it tooo soon and damage it even more. but i am sure you will be fine.

Take it easy Homer, don't rush too quickly, you've got a whole season ahead of you. Don't give yourself a silly injury at the start of the season.

Och, Homer, what's a Bank Holiday without a bit of Homergate ;)

Hey Homer, don't know what you did to your back but always good to hear a fellow golfer on the road to recovery. Like others have said, don't over do it.

Well two range sessions don't make a golfer but I hit every club in the bag today and no ill effects other than one nasty twinge. Put a hot water bottle on it to stop it stiffening up when I got in and took two ibuprofen and it seems fine.

I have to report that I tried hovering my driver and 3 wood after the recent thread and have come to the conclusion that its a lot less bovver with a hover. I couldn't beleive how well I hit them and it felt like my takeaway and turn was so much more in synch. I hit really well again and feel that I'm much smoother probably sub-consciously protecting the back but seem to be making a better turn.

Off to chip and putt tomorrow morning and might get out for nine holes in the afternoon and really see how the game is.

Glad to hear that you (apparently) suffered no ill-effects from your range session.

As the others have said though, take your time. The start of the season must be the worst place to sustain an injury that'll keep you out for a few weeks :)

When I did my back 2 years ago I ended up getting too armsy with the swing, subconsciously not turning properly back or through, led to a poor season.
Make sure the back is strong before doing too much.
One thing that helps me with lower back issues is to make sure hamstring muscles are well stretched. Any chiro will do hamstrings as part of back therapy.
