Well, last Sunday I had a 'moment of clarity' and hopefully smoked my last cigarette. With finances as they are, if I want to get out and do more things or go on more golf away days then I need to save some money somewhere. Everything else has been cut back then it dawned on me (yes I know it is blatently obvious) but there was easily £30-£40 a week I can save if I quit smoking. So, for that most practical of reasons, I stabbed out the last ciggie in my packet and have not had one since. Spending a fortune on sugar free gum at the moment but so far so good. I am booked into the stop smoking clinic at the local doctors next week and they will prescribe me pills if I want or Nicorette and such like.

Anyway, for the first time I am quitting on my terms and not because somebody else (normally my wife) has nagged me into it. Hopefully this will be the end of this particular vice.

i used to smoke 20-30 a day up until 5 year ago promised our lass when we got a mortgage i would quit and did and not once have i thought i could do with a cig good luck with it you will start to feel the differance also your sense of smell an taste will improve

good luck was only when I did it for myself not everyone else I finally quit, that was 18 mths or so ago and Im £5k or so better off, I put £8 a day ion a pot and then when we need a treat the not smoking pot pays for it

Well done for nearly your first week, gave up 2 yrs and 4 months ago, feel so much better. Everything smells so lovely, (well most things)

Give yourself a treat, that's a serious amount of dosh your saving. :) :) :)

good for you (and it will be!).

you have to be selfish and give up for your reasons and no-one else's.

I quit, cold turkey, in Jan 87 and never wanted one since, just as well, I'd have been in the poor house paying civvie prices for the amount I smoked.

Not smoking pot also helps with your energy levels. lol  :p

well done as its a git of a habit and even harder to break. You can do iiiiiiiit ;)

tried a little while back and failed, no excuses just wasn't ready mentally, thought I was. I will do it this year tho!!!

Good for you pal :D I remember my Mum used to say as she puffed on another "I don't drink or go anywhere, it's the only pleasure I get"
Not much fun when we lost her to lung cancer :(
Keep it up and get rid, there will be light at the end of the tunnel sooner than you think.

I remember reading 'The easy way to stop smoking' written by Alan Carr (Not the goofy camp one)

Very good, passed it to 2 other people both have managed not to smoke for 3 years and the other for 3 and a half.

Worth a try if you can get hold of it, the older book, 2nd edition is the better, not so sure bout the one with the CD.

Big hurdle cleared tonight. Been to the pub, a fair few beers and no smoking. This has always caused my downfall. Other issue will be on the course but playing a match with the social team tomorrow who have instructions to keep me on the straight and narrow.
