Finally broke 100...and I'm livid

I've said it before, but a putting lesson will get rid of so many of htese silly missed putts (poor lagging and missed short ones) that it'll take all the pressure of the rest of the game

I have had a putting lesson and I don't think it's to do with technique. I had 35 putts in this round but where I fall down is by getting too tentative. The majority of my frustrating three putts are coming when I've hit GIR and then don't pull the trigger. The reason I say that is because when I need to sink a long one for bogey I'm there or there abouts and leave a tap in. Definitely pyschological.

As for the shorter ones 6 foot they just break more or less than I expect. And we're all guilty of missing our share of those :D

Hi Link I think it does vary for person to person. A little bit will be to do with how quick a learner you are, a little to do with technique and a little to do with the course you play. I'm an ok ball striker but have struggled with control. At my course you wander off line and you can kiss your ball goodbye as it's either OOB, lost in gorse or requiring a drop to get it back in play. I've also struggled with chipping a fair bit. Starting to get the hang of both and hope that I will now make much faster progress. Hats off to you for picking the game up so quickly, I've found the going a lot tougher. :D

Yes I was going to ask how much differance the course can make. Though the course i've been playing is hilly and I think it is considered to be reasonably challenging most of the fairways are quite wide and forgiving. On our last round the front 9 was empty apart from us except a guy who was walking round taking photos and notes. We caught him up on the 16th and asked him what he was doing and he was a course designer employed by the club to make possible changes. He said he was surprised how wide alot of the fairways are, so maybe i'd struggle a bit more on tighter courses. I do tend to hit the ball left to right of the tee which I work with and can get away with on most holes but the rest of my game is pretty steady and i'm quite a decent putter so that saves me quite a few shots usually. Like I say though i've never really had anything to gauge myself off as i'm not a member anywhere and only play friendlies and everyones differant so well done for reaching your own goals.

Yeah if your fairways are massive then I think I'd probably score a bit better at your place as my main problem has been getting myself in trouble off the tee. That said it shouldn't take the gloss of your improvement as you still need to get it in the hole!!! Try a couple of different courses near you and see how you get on. Keep us posted!!!
