Well folks I held back from making my 1,000th post in the hope that I would have some spectacular news, unfortunately it didn't go according to plan.

I started indifferently but got into a good run until the 12th when things started to go wrong. Then I had an absolute mare on the 16th (I scored 10!!!!!) but limped in with a 99.

Mixed feelings really, elated to have broken 100 but livid with that 10 (and a few other things besides). As always the full details of the round on the blog.

I could also do with your help. How do you play the ball out of a wet compacted bunker? Cost me about four shots today. Thanks in advance.

PS Made big strides with the V-Easy and the G15 hybrid!!!

Well worthy of post No. 1000, breaking 100 is a huge milestone and especially with a 10 on your card, because you know there are strokes gone begging there! So well played! :)

As for the bunkers, I tend to either play a normal chip shot i.e. barely taking any sand or chop into the back of the ball and 'pop' it out, it depends on the lie of the ball, distance to the flag and whats between - just my way of playing though, probably best to wait for better advice from someone who can actually play the game! :o

Great news and well deserved after a lot of hard work. As others have said forget about the 10. It'll happen and still does for me (well 8's and 9's). As for the bunker shot I tend to play it with a little more wrist break and try and make a full follow through but maybe a bunker lesson is in order.

Going over to the blog to read about it in full detail.

Well done Tiger, that's a big milestone.

Forget the 10, these things happen. In every round of golf there will always be shots left on the course. My best round of the year to date(+7) contained a treble bogey.

You just have to take the positives from it. Here's to breaking 90 :D

Well done on breaking 100 mate.

Forget about the lousy holes, you just made a great achievement. Sit back and remember the good shots you played. Forget about the bad ones.
Stick at it and aim to get below 95 before beating yourself up to break 90.
I broke 95 last weekend (92) Overjoyed very briefly reflected upon the cause of my missing out on breaking 90 but considered it job done with my 92.

The goal is to break 90 now!

Congrats!

Like the above have said, take the positives and not the negatives. Okay, so there was a 10 on the card - but you know you can play that hole better so breaking 100 should get easier to maintain and your next target is breaking 95 or 90 consistently.

Also, word of warning. Don't go out next time EXPECTING to break 100. I've learned through painful experience that you still have to work at it and plot your way around the course to get a good score.

Well done mate! Your round reminds me of my last one with my pal from work.Played generally well apart from 2 holes i ended up scoring 3 over on.As always rushing things ruins everything!I am sure that your next round will be even lower, especially as your hybrid is working.Look forward to hearing about it! ;)

Well done mate ,don't worry about the 10 and don't let it get to you you've passed another milestone ,next time try breaking 95 you no you can do it.
I admire your passion for this daft game and continuing to post your scores even when not so good but keep it going it will be worth it in the end

Good job, Tiger! Don't be too upset with the 10. It just means that you know that you can play even better than the 99 you ended up with.

There will always be shots left out on the course, even when you knock out a PB. Just take it in your stride and strive to beat it. Next target for you should be to break 100 again, then consistently, then go for 95 etc etc. Keep setting yourself targets like that and your natural competitiveness will keep your zest for the game alive!

Well done!

Thanks for all the positive comments guys, having slept on it I do feel a lot more positive. Hopefully I'll continue to improve my concentration and learn from the errors. I suppose now I have done it for the first time it will ease the pressure a little. Thanks again. :D

Well done, mate. Good shooting. You're always likely to throw in a big number when starting out so don't be too down on yourself.

It should give you the confidence to know that you should be able to break 100 comfortably and then move on to the next milestone.

Well done

Try using your pitching wedge out of the sand. The sharper leading edge will stop the club bouncing off the wet sand.

hey great job, it made me remember my first 99, a great memory. I think you will see that your at the top of a hill now and will make some big gains over the winter. Very well done.

As for the 10, I hit one last month in the mens medal on the 5th hole and had to foget about if as I still had most of the holes still to play. We all do it.

I don't want to take the shine of your achievement but what is a good score for someone new to the game. I started playing in february this year and only play about once a month, the first couple of rounds were off winter tees but with normal greens for most holes and I scored back to back 90's. The next few rounds off the yellow tees I was scoring in the higher 90's with 99 my worst but my last 2 rounds have been a 85 and a 89, the 85 playing the last 3 holes in almost total darkness dropping 6 shots and the 89 I took 5 to get out of a bunker scoring an 8 on a par 3. I thought this was pretty decent scoring but have only really had my 2 playing partners to compare with, and though they don't usually break into the 100's they have only been playing a couple of years themselves and everyones individual, i've always been a pretty fast learner. This isn't a post just to big myself up and put you down I was just surprised to read other comments saying what a milestone it is to break 100 and then 90. I never really thought about it and never got any congratulations from my playing partners.

Hi Link I think it does vary for person to person. A little bit will be to do with how quick a learner you are, a little to do with technique and a little to do with the course you play. I'm an ok ball striker but have struggled with control. At my course you wander off line and you can kiss your ball goodbye as it's either OOB, lost in gorse or requiring a drop to get it back in play. I've also struggled with chipping a fair bit. Starting to get the hang of both and hope that I will now make much faster progress. Hats off to you for picking the game up so quickly, I've found the going a lot tougher. :D
